Huntington and State of Indiana, have invented a new and improved Dish-Forming `Machine, of which the following is a full, v
clear, and exact description.
, My invention relates to machines for forming paper dishes, pie plates, and the like, and more articularly relates to means for forming t e `plates or dishes by first cutting a roll of paper into shapes ready to be pressed and then feeding the cut paper cluding waste breakers wherebyv the wastematerial between the formed dishes is broken out of the sheet. v
H An `object of the invention is to operate the dish-cutting means of the first patent referred to in unison with dish-forming 'means of the second patent, whereby'the feeding of the cut sheet to the dies, the y movements of the dies, and the movements of the waste breakers will be properly timed, the whole being actuated from a vprime mover.

To produce the b ank as in Fi 8, a cutting machine designated genera yby thefnumeral 10 corresponds in general with my first mentioned patent, said machine including a knife-carrying drum or roller 11 having a knife block 12 let intov the peripheral surface thereof and formed with cutting knives 13. (Fig. 1), it being understood that the hives 1n. practice are formed as describedthin the patent referred to4 for producin disk-like members B. ssociatedwit the roller 11 is a ressurel roller 14, spring pressed as described in the patented construction, the spring pressure being'adjusted by screws 15. The shaft 16 of the knife roller 11 is operated as hereinafter explained,
in unison with the dish-forming mechanism next described.
The dish-forming machine includes a suitablebase 18 which in the present instance has a shelf 17 rigid therewith on which the vcutting machine' 10 is supported and from said base rises a U-shaped frame 19 presenting side standards. On the base plate 20 are arranged the female dies 21 above .which are the male dies 22, said female dies having spring pressed plungers 23 to detach the pressed dishes, and the dies being heated and otherwise generally constructed ,as described in my second mentioned patent. ,The tubular plungers 24 of the male dles 22 move in bearings 25 on a xed plunger box 26 extending transversely between they frame members 19, and said plungers receive depending rods or stems 27,011 a carriage 28, said carriage sliding on frame `ribs29 in response to the movements of a pitman 30 extending from cranks 31 on a crank shaft 32 turning in suitable bearings at the tog of the frame parts 19. Said crank sha 1s driven in any suitable manner, there being in the example shown, a gear wheel 32a on said shaft, meshing with a pinion 32b on al drive shaft 32, which has a belt pulley 32d to be driven fromany convenient source of power. The parts referred to correspond essentially with the construction shown in my Patent No. 1,147,759.
In the present construction I provide a novel connection between the carriage 28 and the die plungers 24, the connection consisting of arms 33, 34 on the plungers and carriage, respectively, Aand hingedly connected as at '35, there being interposed between said arms a compression spring 36. Also, between a stem 27 and a plunger 24, a slot and pin connection is established, there being a vertical slot 37 in the plunger and a pin 3S on the stem 27. The ,tension of the spring 36 is suflicient to resist the pressure exerted on the mat rial in forming vthe dishes but the constr ction providesflexibility, thus preventing an undesirable relation of the respective dies and thereby making for durability as well as precision in the formation of the dishes.
The waste breakers 39 have stems or plungers 40 reciprocating in the plunger box 26 and are provided with compression springs 4l thereon. and generally are formed and operate as in my patented construction. In
the presentconstruct-ion, however, .the pluncams of the respective' levers being fixed on a transverse shaft. 47 turning in'bearings 47 a on the plunger box or other fixed part. The shaft 47 has a drive sprocket 48 thereon about which a chain 49 passes, said chain passing also over a sprocket 50 on a stub shaft 51 provided with a. pinion 52 which is in mesh with a. pinion 53 on the crank shaft 32. The described drive connections between the shaft 47 and the crank shaft 32 are so formed and arranged relatively to the pitman 30 and carriage 28 that -the dies 22 and the waste breakers 39 will be properly timed, so that the said breakers will be ,moved downward against the material A just as the male dies22 start to It is important in the operation of the machine that the feeding of the cut blank A from the machine 10 to the dies and die' breakers be properly timed and properly registered with the dies and die breakers, for which reason I provide in my'present construction for the positive and accurate' operation of thel cutting roller 11 from the `crank shaft 32. On the said crank shaft 32 is a cam 54E and riding on the periphery of the cam is a roller 55 on a connectmg rod 56, the lower end of which is pivoted as at. 57 to a ratchet device designated generally by the numeral 58, said device having a pawl 59 compre'ed by a spring 60 and including a sleeve 61 adapted to .turn back and forth through a limited angle about a collar 62 keyed on the shaft 16 and formed with notches or teeth 63 to be engagedby the pawl 59. and collar 62 to the shaft 16 and applying the cam 54 to the crank shaft. Thus, lwithoutaltering the essential features 'of the cutmachine, I insure the effective feed and tuning of the cutpaper to accord with the operations of the dies and waste breakers.
I wish to state in conclusion that although the illustratedy example constitutes a practical embodiment o'f my invention, I. do notlnnit myself strictly to the mechanical details herein illustrated, since manifestly the same can be considerably varied without, de-
parture from the spirit. 'of theinvention as defined in the appended claims.

1. In a machine for forming dishes from imanes a paper sheet, reciprocating breakers for the Waste material, means connecting the breakers in couples, levers ,to actuate the several connecting means, and means tov-rock said levers to actuate the respective couples.
2. In a machine for forming dishes from a paper sheet, reciprocating breakers for the Waste material, springs normally tending to move the breakers in one direction, means connecting the breakers in couples, levers each having an arm engaging the connecting means of the respective couples, a cam engaging the opposite arm of each lever, and means actuating said cams.
