W1 TNESSES INVEN TOR.
A TTORNEY ALINA LUKUS, 0F FLAGSTAFF, ARIZONA.
WASH'IUB.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 16,1918.
Application filed January 17, 1918. Serial No 212,247.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ALINA LUKUS, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Flagstafl, in the county of Coconino, in the State of Arizona, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Washturbs, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in wash tubs. One object is to provide a self-draining wash tub or a tub that is so constructed that it can be drained without lifting it from the floor or ground. A further object is to provide a tub adapted particularly for rinsing and in which clothes to be washed may be placed and fresh water allowed to soak them and run through them and then be drained off by means of a pressure valve so that all the clothes of a washing may be easily rinsed and in fresh water without the necessity of emptying the tub in the previously customary manner.
With the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts to be herein.- after fully. described, pointed out in the appended claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawing which forms a part of this specification and in which- Figure 1 is a view of my improved tub in elevation showing the means provided for filling and emptying the same.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged fragmentary sectional view illustrating the draining means, and is taken on line 22 of Fig. 3.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on line 33 of Fig. 2.
Like reference sponding parts throughout theseveral views.
The reference numeral 1 denotes a tub which is formed with'a perforation 2 in its side through which a nozzle 3 extends, the outer or free end of said nozzle being formed with the threads 4 and the inner end being integral with the enlarged substantially oblong frame-like head 5 which is formed with.
the perforated partition or strainer 6 which divides the interior space 7' from the mouth 8. A washer 9 is disposed within the head 5 flat against the strainer 6 and is retained in position by the pressure valve 10 arranged upon the pivot 11 which is carried b the said head 5, the said washer and valve being substantially less in width than the head 5. Spring clips 12 carried by the said head v5 characters denote corre-- serve to retain the valve yieldingly against movement upon its pivot'll.
A flexible pressure ring 13 encircles a spout 141 which is coupled to a hose 15 which leads to the faucet 16 that supplies water to the tub, the said pressure ring 13 being formed with a stem 17 that extends through the perforated partition or screen 6, through the washer 9 and is made fast to the valve 10. K .The water flowing into the tub through the hose 15 and spout 14 rises in the tub 1 and flows through the mouth 8 ofhead 5, through the perforated partition 6 which member serves to restrain particles of foreign matter, and about the valve 10 and out through the nozzlev 3. The more water there is in the tub the greater the pressure against the valve 10 will be, this pressure, when sufliciently great, forcing the va'lveand washer 9 away from the partition 6 and so permitting a greater outflow of water. The water continually flowing into and out of the tub in the manner described serves to thoroughly rinse the clothes with fresh clean water. Gaskets 18, 19 arranged upon the nozzle 3 are applied to'the open portion 2 of the tub and together with the nozzle are retained in operative position by the nut 20 applied to the threaded portion 4 of said nozzle. An ordinary rubber hose or the like is secured to the free end of the nozzle to convey the waste water to a sewer, catch basin or the like. Clothes left to soak in the tub can-be left unobserved. and without danger ofthe tub running over due to the action of my improved outlet arrangement.
What is claimed is I 1. In a wash tub, a container having a perforation in its side wall, water supply means for said container, said supply means lncluding a spout, a nozzle adjustably applied to the perforated portion of said side wall, said nozzle terminating within the bodyport ion of said container in an enlarged head, said headbeing formed with a mouth, a perforated partition arranged in said head, a valve within said head between the said perforated partition and the said nozzle, and means connecting said valve and the aforesaid spout whereby said valve is yieldingly retained in closest relation tosaid including a spout, a nozzle adjustably applied to the perforated portion of said side- 'Wall, said nozzle terminating within the body portion of said container 'in an enlarged hollow head, said head being formed with a mouth a perforated partition arranged in said head, a pressure valve Within said head between the said perforated partition and the said nozzle, a Washer between 10 said valve and said perforated-partition, and
my own I have hereto affixed my slgnature 15 in the presence of two subscrlbing w1tnesses.
