Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 9, 1918.
Application filedMay 5, 1917. Serial No. 166,609.
Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and- State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Advertising Devices, of which the following is a speci ficatioln My invention relates to improvements in advertising devices, and more particularly to that class or type in which a seriesof vadvertisements are successively shown and part of this speclfication, F igure 1, is an illuminated through a window or sightopening in astationary casing or housing through the medium of suitable letter or advertisement carrying means together with suitable mechanism for intermittently actuating said letter carrying means.
The primaryobject of the invention is the provision of a generally improved deviceof this class which Will not only be simple in construction, and eflicient in operation, but one in which the letters or words in the various advertisements to be successively. displayed and illuminated may be changed at will to meet the varying demands of actual service.
A further object of the invention is the provision of an improved device of this class which willnot only successively and automatically display and illuminate the various signs or lettered panels as stopped or held in a stationary position before the sight-opening of the casing, but one in which improved means are provided for successively illuminating or projecting light through the-letters of the advertisement in sequential orderwhereby to spell out the words in the advertisements as successively displayedtogether with means for cutting out of circuit all of the light projecting lamps just prior to and'during the move- ..ment of the advertisement carrying drum or device for the display of the next advertiseinent and the-repetition of the spell- .ing out or successive illumination of;the letters of the words in the advertisement as above referred to, A still further object is the jecting compartments arranged to individuahze or project the light through the particular letter or device adapted to be brought into registry with such compartprovision' of I improved lamp containing and light proter or device will be clearly defined as distinguished from a successive letter not yet defined by its corresponding individual illuminating means.
With the above mentioned and other ends in View, the invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement, and combination ofparts, hereinafter described, illustrated in one of its embodiments in the accompanying drawings, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
