CANTEEN'.
Specication of Letters Patent.
Patented .any e, reis.
Application led December 7, 1917. Serial No. 206,022.
.7 '0 all whom t may concern: v
Be it known that I, RUDOLF NELLEs, a subject of the King of England, residing at Baltimore, in the State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Canteens, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to new and useful improggements in eanteens, the pvision of a folded canteen made of a material impervious to water, and comprises various details of construction, combinations and arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings and specilically deined in the appended claims.
My invention is illustrated in the aceompanying drawings, which with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this specification and in which:
Figure -1v is a side elevation of the canteen.
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view, and
Fig. 3 is va detail being broken away.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter:
A designates the body portion of the canteen made of canvas, rubber or other suitable material impervious to water, and having a bottom and ends of accordion form which will fold upon itself when not in use. The marginal edges of the ends of the canteen are stitched with a thread, as at C, and D are straps of canvas, or other suitable material, which are stitched to the opposite faces of the canteen and each of said straps is folded longitudinally to form a loop D and especially in perspective view, parts` adapted to receive the handle E. The canteen is provided with a filling opening, 1n which an open-ended shell F is mounted to hold the opening distended, and H is a plug fitted in said sh'll, said plug being attached to the handle through the medium of the plug H A strip B of suitable reinforced material is mounted between the inwardly and downwardly folding ends A and over which, and the upper folded edges of the same, a thread C is stitched, thus securely holding the parts together and forming a watertight joint.
By the provision of a canteen made 1n accordance with my invention, it will be noted that a simple and eliicient device is afforded which, when in use, may be distended and when empty may be folded into a compact form.
What I claim to be new is:
A receptacle of general rectangular shape, the sides and bottom .iade of a single piece of fabric impervious to water, the upper edges of the fabric being inwardlyl folded, a strip interposed between the 'inwardly folded edges, the upper folded portions of the edges. and said strip being flush, and stitching through the sides and folded parts and strip and over the upper edge of the latter, and ends stitched to the ends of sides, handle straps fastened to the opposite sides of the strip.
In testimony whereof Ihereun'to affix my signature in presence of a witness.
