Description

maillon L mhwen o uri) palmen 1n Les to er that ih@ Imp 's' a pan w77' 2 ac infrequem s? and Fine 5 5 n n cutt vamo@ '4 on on@ Eine and voi second shoulder 21 formed by the reinforcing web 20. 'l he rail section l18 of the crossover casting does `not extend the entire length ofthe casting, and preferably 4one end of the crossover rail section 18 is spaced from the wide end of the casting a sufficient tion 11 in a grooved ortion 22 formed in the upper central sur ace of the wide end of the crossover casting. The central reinforcing member 17 extends from the 'wide end of the casting toward the narrow end thereof a sufficient distance to give the required strength to the casting to prevent collapse along the central line thereof.
- By means of this arrangement it is readily apparent that anengine or car may be transferred from one track to another and length of back again by setting the crossover castings in place and connecting said castings with the crossover rail sections, a minimum amount of time being required and at the same time obviating the necessity of using the usual frog and switch.-
It is evident that there may be various modiications of the invention herein shown and described, and it is my intention to cover all such modifications which do not involve a departure from the spirit and scope of the invention as .set forth in the following claims. p
l claim:
1. A crossover comprising a body member provided with tie-engaging supporting flanges extending throughout the major the body and diverging from end to end thereof,.and al wheel guiding element at the top of the body and extending longitudinally thereof substantially midway of4 the flanges.
2. A crossover consisting of a single castsubstantially the major portion ther-eo and diverging from end to end thereof, said flanges constituting support-s to engage cross-ties at opposite sides l of a railroad rail, and a wheell guiding elei the flanges, tliere ment at the upper surface of the' top meinber and disposed longitudinally thereof substantially midway between the flanges.
3. A crossover comprising a body Yinember provided with tie-engaging supporting flanges extending throughout the major length of the body and diverging from end to end thereof, and a wheel guiding element at the top of the body and extending longitudinally thereof substantially midway of being a rail receiving seat on the vtop of the crossover in longitudinal' alinement with the Wheel'guiding element.
4. A crossover comprising a body Ine1n ber, tie-engaging'supporting flanges depending from the body, diverging longitudinally thereof and extending throughout the .ma-3cr' length of the body,
member,I depending sup- 'portin iianges extending longitudinally of the bo y throughout Lariano and a rail section extending longitudinally across the top 1of the body substantially midway between the flanges and having its upper surface in'- clined downwardly toward that endof the -body to which the flanges converge. amount to support the connecting rail secflanges and having its upper surface inclined -downwardly toward that end of the diverging longitudinally f body to which the flanges converge, anda rail receiving seat providedupon the top of the body at the high en d of the rail section.
6. A crossover comprising a tapered channel shaped memberwhich lits over a railroad rail and on its upper surface is fpro- I rom vided with a rail section which tapers one height to another for gradually the'vertical 'position of the element being transferred ,from one track to another.
7.. An integrally formed crossover comprisingl a tapered channel shaped member shifting which ts over a railroad rail and is provided on its'upper surface with a tapering rail section.
8. A crossover/comprising a tapered-channel shaped member adapted to be over a railroad rail and securedto the railroad ties, a tapered member secured to the upper side of the channel shaped member, and means whereby a railroad rail maybe 'susv placed secured to the high end of said tapered member. i
9. A crossover comprising a tapered channel shaped member adapted to be placed over a rail and secured to the ties, member secured to theI upper side of the a tapered.
channel shaped member, and the upper sur- .l
face of said channel member having means for maintaining a railroad rail 1n alinement with the high end of said tapered member.I
l0. A crossover comprising a tapered channel shaped member adapted to be placed over a railroad rail and secured to the ties, a tapered member secured to the'top side of said channel member, 4said channel member being provided with a guide which maintains said channel member at an angle to said railroad rail when applied thereto, and means arranged on said channel member over said 'guide whereby a railroad rail may be secured to the high end of said tapered `member. y
11. ln a crossover, in combination, a hooded member adapted t0 overlie a rail on either side thereof and rest on the ties, :a tongue within said member to position same on the rail, an integral member on the top of said hood, overlying said tongue and tapered at one end to substantially the surface of said mii, andimea-ns on said hood to fiirect and maintain anotiii mii in aiinement with said tapered memxisii l2. A ciossever sonsistingo a single gastizig comprising :i topg depending tiengag ing {imi-ges amandine throughout themajor portion of the iengtii of th@ casting and diyeging from and and, a mii seciiou mi the upper face of the tup midwa betwm the Hufige@ iii@ upper Surface oi" the iiiii section being inclined downwardly toward that and ci" be castiiag to which the anges converge, iba high and of the rail section terminating short of th adjacent @mi of the casting, them baing a mii reciving seat in the uppe face of the to v at mid? in alim@ mani, with the high and o the mii seetiem, and a, supporting web de ending from h@ top and ciisposed longitudinally beneath the mii siiciion.- n
