1 Be it known t at T, JACK Carmina, a citizen of the United Hollywood in the county of LOS Angeles t and'State of California, have invented a new I and useful Electric Lamp, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an electric lamp, and particularly ertains to-that class gen- 1b erally known as and lamps, operated by portable batteries l h 7 It is the object ofthis invention to provide an electric lamp adapted to be de-, tachably connected to a support such as a 15 wrist band, hat band, belt, or other device having an edge or projection suitable to be engaged by a spring clamp, thus producing a amp which will have a wider range of utility than the ordinary battery- 20 containing portable lamps. A further object is to provide a simple construction in a lamp of the above character whereby it may be readily assembled and manufactured at small cost.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a view of the lamp as seen in side elevation showing it as fitted with do a detachable reflector shield.

More specifically 9% indicates the main body portion of the lamp which comprises an annulus formed of insulating material such as fiber, and which annulus is formed with an interned flange 10 spaced from its inner end and formin a seat for a reflector. Arranged within the rear portion of the member 9 is an annular block 12 detachably secured to the member 9 by screws 13.. The block 12 is formed of insulating maea terial and has a tubular extension 14 on its front face which extends into the opening formed by the inner edge of the flange 10. A longitudinal slot 15 lsformed in the V tubular extension 14L and extends throughout at the length thereof, and seating on the block 12 is a contact plate 16 formed with a circular portion arranged within the tubular extension and having a flat member extend ing throu h the slot 15 engaged by a bind- 7 ing post 1 screwed in the block 12 to which 1 the terminal of an electric conductor 18 is attached. A space 19 is rovided between the front face of the b oclr 12 and the rear face ofthe flange 10 forming an an to nular channel within the body member around the tubular extension, and an opening 20 is formed in the wall of the member 9 communicating with chamber 19 through which the conductor 18 and a companion W conductor 21 passes. The conductor 21 connects with a binding post 22- engaging a contact plate 23 extending through a channel 24 in the block 12 and along the bottom of a groove 25 in the latter. A perforation 26 is formed centrally of the block'12 registering with a perforation 27 in the contact plate 16 and extending through the perforations 26 and 27 is a threaded stem 28 screwed in the plate 23 and having a screw W head 29 engaging-insulating washer 30 seating on the outer face of the late 16. The threaded stem serves to hol d the contact plates 16 and 23 in place in coiiperation with the binding posts 11' and 22, and also serves as a contact member against the central portion of the plug 31 on an electric bulb 32, which plug 31 is adapted to be screwed into a threaded metallic sleeve 33 arranged within thetubular extension M and surrounding and contacting the circular portion of the contact plate 16. The electric bulb when screwed in the scclret formed by the sleeve 33 and positioned in contact with the screw head 29 will be electrically tea connected to the conductors 1d and 21.
Secured to the rear face of the bloelr M is a bl-ehaped spring clamp 3t bted tn bu gage a band, belt, rim, or other suitable means of support whereby the lamp may be conveniently held. For instance, the spring clamp afiords means whereby the lamp may be carried in the hat band or on a wrist band as shown in Figs. 6 and? of the drawings, and thus, obviates holding the lamp in the hand.
Obviously the lamp may be employed in a wide range of uses, and wherever an electric lamp is serviceable. For example, it may be employed in dental or surgical work, as a night signal for autoists and others, by mechanics in working in dark or poorly lighted places, and as a reading lamp or other domestic uses, these various uses being facilitated by reason of the spring clamp whereby the lamp may be removably attached to a suitable support.
As a means for shielding and directing the light rays from the lamp a detachable reflector shield is provided which comprises a c lindric'al sleeve portion 36 adapted to encircle the member 9 and to be held in' place on the latter by screws 37 extending through open-ended slots in the edge of the sleeve 36 and en aging the member 9. lhe shield also em odies a semi-cylindrical shield portion 38 formed in continuation of the sleeve36 and having a wall 39 closing its outer end. This reflector shield may be removed as occasion requires.
1 claim:
1. In a portable electric lamp, a block of insulating material, formed with a tubular extension on one side thereof having a longitudinal slot, a conductor plate arranged in the bottom of said tubular extension projecting through the slot, a binding post engaging said plate, a threaded socket sleeve linneeaeiaa ing the tubular extension contacted by the conductor plate, a contact member arranged centrally of the socket extending through the contact plate and block and insulated from the plate and socket sleeve, a conductor plate connecting with said contact member on the rear face of said block extending to the forward face of the latter, a binding post connected to said last named conductor plate, an annular body member encircling the block having an inturned flange encirclin the tubular extension and concealin the binding posts, a reflector annulus seate on 'the flange encircling the socket sleeve, and a spring clamp aflixed to said block.
2. In a portable electric lamp, a block of insulating material, formed with a tubular extension on one side thereof having a lon gitudinal slot, a conductor plate arranged in the bottom of said tubular extension projecting through the slot, a bindin post engaging said plate, a threaded soc et sleeve lining the tubular. extension contacted by the conductor plate, a contact member arranged centrally of the socket extending through the contact plate and block and insulated from the plate and socket sleeve, a conductor plate connecting with said contact member on the rear face of said block extending to the forward face of the latter, a binding post connected to said last named conductor plate, an annular body member encircling the block having an inturned flange encircling the tubular extension and concealing the binding posts, a reflector annulus seated on the flange encircling the socket sleeve, a spring clamp afiixed to said block, and a reflector shield detachably connected to the annular bod member.
