by simplieit and economy of construction. The detai s of construction, arrangement,
and combination of parts embodying the invention are as hereinafter I described, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a'broken perspective showin a portion of an inclosing box or case wit mi invention applied.
1g. 2 1s a perspective view of a portion of one of the cell case dividing or cushioning plates.
Fig. 3 is a vertical section-of a portion of a case.
Fig. 4 is'a plan view of the same.
Fig. 5 is a detail vertical section of a tion of a double cellcase.
My egg package comprises the'following parts or elements, to-wit: a cell structure Specificatlon of Letters Patent.
for receiving eggs, and dividing and cush-" ioning plates 2 and 3 (see Figs. 2- and 5). The said plates havecircular openings for receiving the ends of the eggs, as shown in Fig. 3, and around each opening there is a series of elastic fingers 4, projecting, respectively, up anddown from adjacent plates 3 2 and 3, and bearing against and cushioning tions, which are slotted transversel and .ine plates the extremities of the eggs :0, as shown particul'arlyin Fig. 3.
The cellular holder 3 is preferably formed of a series of paste-board strips or partitersect each other at right angles. 2 and 3 are formed of thin elastic material, preferably pasteboard, and stamped to pro- Patented was 4, 1918.
- Application filed June 5, 1917. Serial No. 172,999.
duce hollow ribs 6 and hollow conical pro tuberances 7 located at the intersection of the ribs. The latter stiffen the plates so that they ma be produced from comparatively thin an light material, and the grooves formed on their inner sides receive the edges of the cell partition 1, as shown in Figs. 3
and 5, and thus assist in supporting the partitions 1 against lateral ressure oi the eggs placed in the several cel s.
The rotuberances 7 strengthen and impart a ditional rigidity to the ribs at their several junctures, and also form so many cushions for the plates 2 and 3 as a whole.
As shown in Fig. 5, the protuberances 7 of adjacent plates 2 and 3 rest in contact and thus not only produce a double cushion effeet, but hold the plates separated vertically by a space which prevents the opposed ends of eggs :1; in adjacent tiers from coming in contact vertically," whereby maximum safety is assured. i
I claim 1. An improved dividing and cushioning member for an egg case of the typeindicated,
the same consisting of an elastic plate having openings with surrounding elastic fingers hollow ribs intersecting each other at right anles, and conical protuberances struck up om the body of the the intersections of sai ribs and 1'018Cti11 above the plane of the ribs, ass own an described.
2. In an egg case of the type indicated the combination with a series of superposed oellsiructures formed of partitions intersecting a right angles, of dividing and cushloningmembers consisting of an elastic plate having a series of registering o eningswlth surrounding elastic fingers, an inter'sectlng late and located at hollow ribs extending around the openings and provided at their angles with struck-up anssnn HARR.
