Description

E. D. BENNETT.
FELT CLEANER FOR PAPER MAKING MACHINES.

vm'imas features 1 via-3W, partly in section, of {Li pesitisn, the (109 the pesiiion a; flamed the cleansing opi'udarn with the rollers -2 thereon vertically comprises a horizontal shaft -11 and vertical screw shafts -12-', the shaft -l1- being -journaled in suitable hearings in the frame --10 and provided with a hand-wheel -l3 by which it may be turned, while the screw shafts --l2 are. driven from the main shaft 11 by bevel-gears 14 and are engaged in threaded apertures -l5- in the movable frames 8, as shown more clearly in. Figs. 2 and3, to raise and lower Q said frames and rollers mounted thereon.
One or more of these cleaning devices may i be built in or permanently attached to the may have lodged in the interstices of the fabric, and at the same time restores the surface of the felt to its original condition.
This method vof cleaning is not only more expeditious afil j IthorOugh, but avoids the wrinkles, creases and mutilation so common the present roping process and greatly increases the life of the felt. o
In some instances, it may be possible to accomplish similar results by creating suction in the pipe -;-l-- in whichcase it would simply be necessary to reverse the arrangev ment of the pipe --l-- and rollers 2- relatively to the felt so that the substance which may be embedded therein would be "drawn outwardly by suction instead of by pressure and,- therefore, I do not wish to limit my invention to the use of fluid under pressure in the pipe -1.
I claim A felt-cleaning .device for paper-making machines comprising a pipe having an open side adjacent the felt, and means for creating a fluid current in the pipe and through the open side thereof and adjacent portion of the fabric for removing any substance which may have become lodged in the felt,
a pair of rollers for engaging the felt at opposite sides of the pipe, and means for adjusting said rollers to force said felt against the open side of the pipe,
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this third day of November, 1916.
