artisan W. roeren, or mannaro, MINNESOTA.
v To all whom t may concern:l
B e it known that I, REUBEN W. ylfo's'rnn, a citizen -of the United States, residing at Mankato,` inthe county of Blue Earth' and State of lVIinnesota, have invented certain.
new and useful Improvements in'Ovens, of
which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvementsin the ovens of stoves and ranges, its object being to provide improved means for,` the drawing out of one4 or 'both grates in the opening of the door.
Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 is a section taken just inside one side wa of the oven with both grates withdrawn.
Fig. 2 is a similar View with the door closed.
Fig. Sis a detail of a locking lever forming part-ofmy invention.
Fig. 4 is adetail of a supporting bracket for one end .of an actuating bar for the locking levers, l and v Fig. 5 is avertical cross section of the oven taken .inside the door.
Referring to the drawings Avrepresentsan oven, inside -the side wall of which are 'supported rails 2 upon which the upper and lower grates 3 and 4 slide. The rails 2.
as shown, are held spaced" from the side walls of the oven as by. supporting brackets 5. The lower grate is formed with integral' upwardly extending side walls 6 each wall at its upper edge supporting a socket plate.
7 with which socket plates the downwardly projecting ends 8 of the lever arms9 are adapted to interlock. Each of the lever arms 9 have fulcrum support 10l under the upper grate, the outer 'ends of the lever arms extending slidably through the slotted brackets 11. For the purpose of depressing the overlapping inner ends of the lever arms 9 to carry the outer ends ofsaid arms out of interlockingengagement with the lower grate I provide a bar .12.' vThe bar 1'2 is. slidably supported underneathv the upper-4 -grate by means of a' bracket 13 secured.
under the front .end of the. grate and by apin 14 projecting downwardly from the' grate through a-Uslotted opening 15 iin the bar l2, the he'adpf the pin acting asv a support for the under side of the bar.
The front end 16 of the bar eXtendsdownf wardly to fornia lfinger hold and the rear end 17 of the bar `extends downwardly and rearwardly to f orm'uan actuating cam for i Specification of Letters Patent.
the inner ends of the lever arms 9. -When arms. to swing freely upon their fulcrums 10, thus causing the heavier outer ends of the arms 9 to, dropby gravity -into locking engagement with the socket plates 7. By pulling the bar 12 forwardly, the downl'wardlyprojecting rear end 17 of the bar is brought into actuating engagement withI the inner ends of the .lever arms 9 to force said ends downwardly and lift-the outer' ends S outv of locking engagement with the socket )Patented Apr. 116, 11918. Application led September 2, 1916. SerialANo. 118,244. I
plate. 71 Thisv leaves the upper and lower', i grates unconnected so that the lower .grate may be drawn outwardlywithout the upper grate being moved.
.For the purpose of pulling the lower grate outwardly as the oven door B is opened, I mechanism. 1
Lever arms 18 have' fulcrum' support 19 on the opposite side walls. of 'the oven below thev lower grate, said lever arms extending upwardly between the sidewalls of the provide the following described.
oven and the sidewalls of the lower grate.
Anti-friction rollers 2O are journaled upon vthe' upper ends of the' lever arms v18 and project inwardly into upwardly and 'forwardly curved slots 21 in the upwardly projectin'g side walls of the lower grate. f A link 22, shown in dotted lines, intermediately `vconnects each lever arm 18 with a-caln lever 23 at a pointabove the pivotal ,support 24:
of the camlever. vThe 'upper end of each cam lever is pivotally connected by a 4link 25 with a suitablebracket 26 extending inwardly` from the ovendoor. The links 25 the links formed with slots 27 ,to receive the brackets 26, whereby to" allow the above deare preferablyy detachably connected with 'f the brackets`26 as by having outer ends of scribed mechanism to be disconnected v from l the door and permit the door being opened and closedwithput moving the grates. Thel preferably removably supported upon the iside bars ofthe grate so as to allow it to be removed to leave the center of the oven .unobstructed in ease it is desired to place things upon the oven bottom.
through the medium of the links 25, turnI platform portion 28 of, the 'lower grate is the cam levers 23 forwardly upon their pivotal supports, motion being transmitted through the links 22 to the levers 18 to pull pulled out together, or the lower grate may be'pulled out independently of the upper grate by disconnecting the upper and lower,
grates as pointed out. y
. Should it bedesired to open the door without operating the shelves, this may be accomplished by opening the door and unhooking the links. 25 from the brackets26'.
I claims v 4 l. In combination with an oven .and the door thereof, a pair of grates slidably supported within sa'id oven, -a connection be .tween one of said gratesand said door causing said grate to be pulled out as the said door is opened, andmeanscarried by' the other grate normally interlocking with said first.',mentionedy grate, and said means being separable to allow said grates to` be disconnected and said connection between the door and one grate being :separable toallow said door to be disconnected therefrom and permit theioor being openedwithout alfecting either grate;
2.*In combination with an oven and the door thereof, a pair of grates slidably supported within said oven, a connection between one of said grates and said door caus-A ing said grate to be'pulled out as said door is opened, means carried by the other grate, normally interlocking with said first men-- tion'ed grate, and means'holding said locking mechanism withdrawn -to maintain said grates in unconnected position. l
alnlcombination with` an oven and the doorthereof, a pair of grates slidably supported within said oven, lever connectionsl `between one of said grates and said door whereby said grate fis pulled out as said door opened, lever arms carried'by the other grate and normallyinterlocking with said 'irst mentioned grate, and slidable means actuatable yto move said lever arms"- out of locking position. ln testimony whereof I aliiX my signature l in presence of two witnesses.
