To all whom it may concem:

Be it known that I, FREDERICK C. Donn- MANN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Antiseptic Tooth-Brush Holders, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to anti-septic tooth brush holders, and more particularly to antiseptic tooth brush holders in which a compartment adapted to contain anti-septic fluid is provided as well as a drying compartment for the brush bristles.

In accordance with the invention a neat and attractive holder adapted to permit the immersion of the bristle portion of a tooth brush in anti-septic fluid and to hold such bristle portion in a position where it may properly drain and dry is produced. In one form, the device may be so constructed that it may be used as a wall fixture, or stand upright on any suitable horizontal surface, or the same maybe knocked down and the fluid containing portion closed so as to provide a convenient travelers article.

In the form of the device shown in the drawing the respective fluid containing and drying compartments are shown as so arranged that a tooth brush may be inserted in t e drying compartment, bristle end first and upon being introduced sufficiently far into the device the bristle end of the brush may reach the anti-septic liquid in the liquid containin compartment, in which the bristles may e immersed for the desired length of time, and after which immersion the brush may be'positioned and supported in the drying compartment, through which air is allowed to circulate, and in such position that the liquid in the bristle portion will drain into the-liquid containing compartment.

A further object of the invention is to provide a device of this general character, which will be relatively simple and inexpensive in construction and organization, and which will be enerally superior in efiiciency and serviceabi 'ty.

With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel and useful provision, formation, combination, association and relative arrangement of parts,

members and features, all as hereinafter described, shown in thedrawing, and finally pointed out in claims:

Fig. 4 is a fragmentary side elevation of a modified form of certain details, parts being broken away and sectioned for clearness of illustration.

The parts in the several figures are designated by reference characters.

Referring with particularity to the drawing, in the embodiment of the invention shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3, A designates the improved holder, B designates the fluid containing compartment thereof, 0 designates the drying compartment thereof, D designates means whereby a brush may be suspended in the drying compartment C, E designates automatically acting means for positioning a brush in the drying compartment C, and F designates means of attachment whereby the holder may be supported on a wall.

The anti-septic fluid containing compartment B is formed in a member comprising a tubular body portion 5 having a closed lower end 6 and being internally threaded at the upper end as at 7 and a combined closure and foot member 8 which may be applied to the lower ortion of the tubular body 5 as shown in ig.-1 or used as a closure for the threaded end of the body 5 as shown in Fig. 3. The member 8 is preferably circular in form and has a bore 9 snugly fitting the tubular body 5 and an annular channel 10 at the lowermost portion of said bore, thus roviding a plug like portion 11 provided with threads 12 which are adapted for engagement with the threads 7 of the tubular body 5 when the member 8 is used as a closure.

The drying compartment C is, formed in a member 0 consistmgof a tubular body 13 externally threaded at its lower end as at 14 for enga ment with the threaded portion 7 of the tu ular body 5, and provided w th a closure 15 at its upper end. A plurality of air vents 16 are provided throughout the ma'or portion of the length of the body 13 and an outer casing of foraminous material 17 is applied over the tubular body 13, such to permit the circulation of air therethrough but preventing the intrusion of dust. The closure 15 is provided with a semi-circular orifice 18 through which the bristle end of a tooth brush may be introduced, and a notch 19 is provided in said closure 15 said notch communicating with or forming part of said orifice 18, and being adapted to fit the shank portion of a tooth brush handle. Said closure 15 so provided with the notch 19 may constitute the supporting means D.

The automatically acting positioning means E comprises a plate 20 provided with perforations 21, and tension means which may consist of a compression spring 22 confined between'the plate 20 and the bottom closure 6 of the tubular body 5 and adapted to support the plate 20 in position above the level of liquid shown at 23 in the tubular body 5.

The means of attachment F may consist of a wall bracket 24 provided with a pair of spring fingers 25 adapted to embrace the assembled members Z) and a as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. The bracket 24 also may be provided with a foot piece 26 to prevent displacement of the assembled members I; and c by downward thrust incident to use of the device. The bracket 24 may be secured to a wall 27 by means of screws or the like 28.

In the modified form shown in Fig. 4, automatically actin supportin means G may consist of a hfiloiv cylin rical float 29 adapted to normally position the bristle portion of a tooth brush above the liquid level, such float bein dependent upon buoyancy to so maintain t 1e bristle ortlon of the brush in elevated position. therwise the holder may be the same as the form shown in theother figures.

The operation, method of use and advantages of the improved tooth brush holder will be readily understood from the foregoing disclosure, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing and the followin statement:

e members I; and c bein united as shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 4, a toot brush may be inserted through the orifice 18, bristle end first, as shown in the dotted lines in Fig. 1, and by pressing with a finger the bristle portion of the brush may be pressed into the anti-septic liquid 23, depressing the plate 20, the spring 22 ieldingly resisting such immersion of the rush in the case of the automatic means E of Fig. 1, or the float 29 yieldingly resistin such immersion of the bristles in the liquif 23 in the case of the means G shown in Fig. 4. If it is desired to allow the brush bristle portion to remain immersed in the liquid, the end of the brush handle may be ressed under the closure 15 and the brush c amped between such closure and the means E or G as the case may be. When it is desired to remove the brush or to support the bristle portion thereof in the dle suspending the bristle portion from the closure 15. It will be understood that either the means D, the means E or the means G, may be employed singly or the means D and E or the means'D and G may be employed in a single device as any one of these means shown is capable of supporting the brush in the holder with the bristle portion in position to be drained or dried.

It will be seen that the perforated tubular member 13 and the tubular member 17, of reticulated material such as gauze, are fitted snugly together so that combined they practically constitute a single casing and that the relatively weak reticulated member 17 is reinforced by the more substantial member 13. As the brush supporting means 19 is above and not supported b the member 17 butby the member 13, no de ormation of the member 17 will occur from the ordina g It will be seen that the ve small size of the holes in the tubular mem er 17 as compared with the size of the ventilating holes 16 of the member 13 is such that there is a group of aforesaid holes opposite the holes 16, so that substances floating in the air are tra ped by the material of said member 17 and cannot enter the very small holes thereof.

3. An antiseptic tooth brush holder comprising, in combination, a fluid containing chamber having a vertical length approximating that of the bristle portion of a tooth brush and adapted to hold an antiseptic fluid, a laterally ventilated chamber detachably connected with the upper end of said fluid chamber, and being arranged thereover and open at its upper end so that the said bristle portion may be immersed in the fluid in said fluid chamber and means at the upper end of said ventilated chamber for engaging the handle of said brush and Supportin the bristle portion out of the fluid in sai fluid chamber.

4. In a device of the character described, the combination of a laterally ventilated chamber, comprising a tubular top member having its cy indrical wall perforated and a tubular member of reticulated material fitted snu ly to the cylindrical surface of said pe orated member and extenditlg across the perforations of said perfora member, said perforated member constituting a reinforcement for, said reticulated member, means at the up r end of said chamber and above said reticulated member, constituting the support for a brush introduced into said chamber, and means detachable from the lower end of the said chamber for closing said end, said reticulated member being of fine mesh to provide holes of such size relatively to the size of the perforations of said perforated member that a group of said meshes is located opposite each of the said perforations.
