wherein the pressure is not relatively high,
and has for one of its objects to improve the construction and increase the eficiency and utility of devices of this character.
Another object of the invention is to provide a simply constructed device which may be applied to a hose where a leak or puncture occurs without the necessity of employing implements other than the hand of the operator, and which temporarily closes the leak or puncture.
With these and other objects in View, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, as hereinafter shown and described and then specifically pointed out in the claims; and in the drawings illustrative of the preferred embodiment of the invention- Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a section of hose with one of the devices attached.

Garden hose are frequently unctured or "subject to small leaks or crac s which destroy their usefulness, and to tem orarily close such punctures or leaks is the o ject of thepresent invention, which is constructed from a sheet of bendable metal, represented as a whole at 10, and with a portion near one end depremed to form a recess 11 opening toward one side of the plate, and with a slot 12 formed through the plate at one end of the recess. At one edge of the slot the metal at Osis upset to form two or more projections or humps 13.
At the end opposite to the recessed portion 11 the plate is reduced to form a relatively elongated tongue 15, and formed through the tongue near its outer end and transversely thereof are a plurality of clefts 16 and the material between the clefts bent down to form tongues 17 which project beyond the general face of the tongue.-
The plate 10 is designed to be bent into cylindrical form, initially. somewhat larger than the hose to which it will be attached, a
portion of which is represented at 18, with the open side of the recess toward the hose. The tongue is then thrust through the slot 12 and pressure applied by the hands to compress the plate 10' around, the hose which movement causes the tongue to pass through the slot and over the outwardly directed projections 13 and engages one of the tongues 17 therewith, and by continuing the pressure the member 10 may be. caused to closely engage the surface of the hose and be locked in position thereon. The body 10 and the tongue 15 being of relatively light sheet metal, the tongues 17 will yield suficiently to permit them to pass over the hump or projection 13 when the requisite compression force is applied to the band, as will be obvious.
The projections 13 will be spaced apart one half the distance between each pair of the tongues 17, so that the device may be locked in position at twice as many points as there are tongues.
Thus the range of the locking feature of the device is materially increased without increasing the number of the tongues.
In applying the plate to the hose it will be understood that the body portion of the plate will be disposed opposite the leak or puncture, and when the plate is locked in position on the hose the puncture will be closed. The improved device is simple in construction, can be applied without the necessity of employing implements of any kind other than t e hands of the operator. By forming a plurality of the clefts 16 and the tongues 17, the improved device may be adlapted to hose of various sizes.

A device of the class described comprising a yieldable band adapted to surround an I merger object and having a plurality of trzinsverse clefts near one end and a transverse slot near the other end, the material between the clefts being bent to form tongues inclined to the plane of the band and a projection at one end with the material adjacent to theslot pressed outwardlv to form an inwardly opening recess closed at one end and with Which the slot communicates, one edge of the slot being provided with a projection and the reduced portion rovided with a plurality of transverse cle with the material between the clefts pressed in'wardlyto form inclined ton es to engage the projection of the slot w en the reduced portion of the band is inserted through the slot and into the recess.
