`DOBOTHY ZECH, 01? LAWRENCEBURG, INDIANA.
GARMENT-TEMPLET.
TaaZZ whom it may concem 7 Be it known that l, Donornr ZECH," residing at Lawrenceburg, in the countyof Dearborn and Stat-e of lndiana, have invented a new and useful Garment-Templet,
of which the following is a specification.
My invention has reference to improvevments in that class of pattern charts or templet-like forms especially designed for use'in the making ot womens waists and it primarilyhas for its purpose to provide a device of the character described that is particularly adapted for outlining patterns for plain waists, which is composed of two parts, one constituting 'a front section and the other a back section, and in which the several adjustable members constituted in each section are so arranged that they may be readily manipulated by any one, whether skilled in the-art et dressmaking or not.- j
With other objects in view that will hereinafter appear, my Vinvention consists, generally, of an improved design of sectional garment templet whose members are relatively adjustable and in such manner that they may be quickly and accurately set to edge may be obtained `for designating the pattern on the goods, `trom which `the garment is to be made.
My invention further consists in the details of construction hereinafter explained,
specically pointed out in the appended claims and illustrated in the drawing, in which:
Figure l is a plan view of my improved templet or adjustable pattern for the front part of the waist.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of a front pattern cut on the lines of the said templet. j
Fig. 3 is a similar view of the templet or pattern section for forming the back part of the waist, and i Fig. 4 is a plan view of a back pattern cut on the lines or the templet shown in Fig. 8.
The templet asA shown in Fig. 1 isprovided for producing the pattern for Vthe accompanying `waist front, it being apparent `:tromy the Specicatonof Letters Patent. Patented 26, 191g. Application inea october 17, 191e. serial no. 126,103.
the. center Jfront section and the other 2, the under arm front section, the latter having the usual concaved arm socket or curved rear upper edge 20, while the front upper edge oi! the member 1 has the usual neck curve 10.
may be vpatterned by my templet, and one of the said sections 1-2, preferably that section lwhich is overlapped by the other, has character scales a so that the adjustment of one section, relatively to the other, will uncover the different indicating sizeson the scales, as the two sections are adjusted to the required extensionlimits.
ln the drawing, I have illustrated the templet section as having relatively such adjustment whereby the templet may be set for delineating a 84 pattern when closed and a 50 pattern when extended to the limit.
designates a supplemental section, which l term, the under arm front adjuster and it has an adjusting slot 21 for coperating with a like slot 23 in the member 2 which overlaps it and whose rear edge 2a is utilized for alining the upper and lower character scales 6 6 on the said under arm front adjuster 22,
15 designates what l term the center front adjuster, which cooperates with the front edge of the center front 1 and the said adjuster 15 and the front member 1 have coacting adjusting slots 16-16 and 11- 11, the adjuster 15 being also provided with upper andjlower character scales 17-17 located adjacent the slots lil-16.
At a suitable distance from the lower end, the said front member 1 is cut out to produce a horizontal body of a length equal the extension adjustment of the overlapping members `1 and 2, plus the extra space allowed :torseams, which throughout the front and back templet structure need not exceed of an'inch.
From the inner end of the said bottom edge 8, member 1 is cut to form a dart curve edge 9, the cut of which varies according to the size of the pattern desired and which is determined by the graduating scale 18 and for coacting with ythe said dart curve, the adjacent lower edge of the central section 2 is likewise cut to form a dart edge 25,
the curvature of whichl is also determined by the scale 18.
The several adjustable sections are held together and secured to the different adjustments by stud 'washers and thumbf nuts A j uster 60.
Adjacent its opposite vertical edges, the central back portion 55 has upper and lower sets of substantially horizontally disposed adjusting` slots 62-62 and the center back adjuster 58 has similar slots 63--63 for alining with the slots 62, it also having,` adjacent its slots, character scales (M -(Si, as shown.
The` under arm adjuster 59 has slots V65---65 for coacting with the slots Gl--l in the back portion 55 and the inner edge 66 of the adjuster l59 overlaps the upper and lower scales (S7-67.
The under arm adjuster 59 also has a suppleniental adjusting slot G8, near its lower end, to provide for the required attachmentl and adjustment of the supplemental under arm adjuster 60, the latter being provided for determining the proper under arm fitting in making the larger sizes of waists, the upper edge of the adjuster being out on the required curvature to insure the proper under arm pattern lines.V
One-third of an inch is deemed su'l'iicient for the dart seams.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the drawings, it will be readily apparent that While my templet will be found especially useful for diessinakers` the construction thereof is so simple and the manner of its use is so plain that the saine may be readily einplyed by others not specially skilled in the art of dressmaking.
TheV templet shown, when closed, serves tol form a pattern for a Si bust measure. To adjust it for'larger sizes, it is only necessary to take the bust measurement and assuming the same to be 38, it is only necessary to shift the several partsuof the front and back templet sections along the several scnles to the 38 designating characters to produce the required size of pattern, see for example Figs 2 and 4f.
l ani aware that templet's or adjustable pattern charts have heretofore been pro- Y vided for producing patterns for different waist siz'e's,` and in which are included adjustable members, lout, so far as I know, they 1 ,ecos-io havebeen more or less complicated and more generally' adapt'e`cl`=for'being used by dressmakers or vothers skilled in the making of garments.
In my construction, the adjustment of the templet sections, both for the front and back forms, are uniform throughout, z'. c., the differentmemliers are Veach adjusted laterally with respect to 4each other and a careful-or Aspecial manipulation thereof is not required further than to `loosen up the Set screws and shift the several sections until the required sizes on Jthe several scales are exposed and then tighten up the set screws.
There are no irregular lines and those that occurV `fall at the bottom and not at the shoulderor neck lines, .which under all adj ustments remain true.
Aftergetting the proper pattern adjustments, thetemplets are placed lengthwise on the material and are then outlined with a tracer or pencil.
