ERNEST C. RIMPlZE, OF PORT ORCHARD, WASHINGTON.
nnmnino-s'rorrnn.
ea ers.-
To all whom it may concern: 7 V V Be it known that I, ERNEST U. RIMPLE, a citizen of the United States, residing at .Port Orchard, in the county of Kitsap and tion of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which itappertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in drinking stoppers. i
The object of this invention is to provide a stopper of this character which may be inserted in a bottle of any type and the contents of the bottle drunk therefrom thus obviating the necessity of a glass, cup or the like.
A further object of this invention is to provide a stopper which when inserted in a bottle permits theperson or persons usin the same to readily drink from the bottle without the necessity of taking the bottle from the lips to swallow, due to; the factthat the stopper is provided with an air passage which communicates with the atmos phere and mouth of the user whereby air may be drawn into the mouth to prevent a vacuum from being-formed therein and also to permit air to be, drawn into and forced into the bottle to replace'the liquid displaced therefrom.
A still further object of this invention is to provide a simple, practical, and comparatively inexpensive device of this character and one that can be manufactured and sold at a small cost.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the claims hereto appended.
In the drawings: 7 Figure 1 a fragmentary portion of a bot tle with my improved stopper therein, and Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the stopper.
Like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawings.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, the numeral 1 designates a portion of a bottle oftheusual type having the neck portion 2 which has abeaded flange 3.
My improved drinking stopper comprises Specification 0t Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 26, 1am.
Application filed hTovember 4, 1916. Serial No. 129,499.
in its construction the cylindrical extension fl: having-its upper end enlarged as at 5, which enlarged portion is reduced at its upper end asfat 6 forming a shoulder 7 whichshoulder limits the movement of the stopper ina persons mouth.
The upper portion 5 of the cylindrical extension l is offset laterally as at 8 to provide a shoulder 9, the purpose of which will be more fully hereinafter described.
The cylindrical extension 4 and enlarged portion 5 is constructed of wood, glass, metal or the like, and has secured thereto a cork 10 which cork is of a tapered formation and adapted to have its enlarged end in abutting engagement with the under side of the shoulder 9. The cork 10 is adapted to form an air tight connection between the stopper and bottle neck when inserted therein.
The enlarged portion 5 is provided with 'a diagonally extending. bore 11 having its lower end opening outthrough the laterally extending portion 8 and its upper end open ing out through the end of the tapered por tion 6 of the enlarged portion 5, thus permitting the, portion 6 to be placed between the lips of a persons mouth and the contents of the bottle drunk therefrom without the necessity of removing the bottle from the lips. As an inlet of air may pass through the diagonally extending bar into the mouth of the user thus permitting the contents of the bottle to run freely into the mouth of the'user due to the fact that the air being drawn in through the opening so as to replace the contents being drawn from the bottle.
The diagonally extending opening 11 also permits a person when using the bottle to readily draw air into his mouth thus preventing a vacuum from' being created therein. It is to be noted that by this construction, air may be freely drawn into the mouth and a vacuum prevented from formlng therem, and also air may be urged mto the bottle to displace the liquid and to replace the liquid being displaced therefrom by the swallowing of the user.
What is claimed is: i
1.- A drinking stopper comprising a bottle engaging portion and a lip portion, and having a diagonal passage extending through the lip portion to permit of the inlet of air into the bottle. 2. A drinking stopper comprising a cylindrical body, an enlargement formed at one end of the body, said enlargement having its upper end tapered, a cork arranged around the extension below the enlarge- 3'. A drinking stopper eomprising a oyl in drical body, the upper end of the body being enlarged and provided with a lateral offset portion, said enlargement provided with a diagonally extending air opening, and a corlr surrounding the cylindrical body below the enlargement, said enlargement tapering exteriorly to provide a shoulder to limit the insertionv ot the stopper in a pen Gnpleso! this patent may, he obtained; for five cents each, by addressing the Commissionen out Enteritis,
drained from the bottle as and theipulz pose. specified,
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature 1n presence of twowwltnessesi.
