R. WARNER.- ADJUSTABLE B0| .STER. APPLICATION FILED APR/23. IBIZ- Patented Mar. 26', 1918.

RICHARD WARNER, 0F OSAKIS, "MINNESOTA.
Specification of Letters Patent.
ADJUSTABLE BOLSTER.
Patented Mar. 26, 1918.
Application filed April 23, 1917. Serial No. 163,881.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RICHARD WVARNER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Osakis, in the county of Douglas and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Bolsters, of which the following is a specification.
My invention consists of an extensible bolster for sleds or wagons whereby the bolster may be extended where a longer bolster is desired, thus saving the employment of bolsters of difl'erent lengths.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a perspective view of the bolster embodying the features of my invention and set for use, Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the bolster in the process of adjustment and Fig. 3 is a section on line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
In the drawings I have shown opposite ends of the bolster fitted with slightly different modifications of my invention, either of which or any other modification coming within the scope of the invention may be utilized.
Referring to the drawings, A represents a bolster adapted to be used in connection with a sled in the ordinary manner. 3 represents the extension ends of the bolster secured between side plates 4. Said side plates at their inner ends are formed with horizontal slots 5 to receive the pins 6, upon which pins said extension'ends are adapted to slide. Upon the main bolster adjacent to the ends thereof are secured U-shaped clips 7 having lower outwardly projecting ends 8 upon which the side plates of the bolster are adapted to rest. The side plates 4 are formed with a plurality of notches 9 to receive the outwardly projecting ends of the U clips and hold the extension ends of the bolster in the position placed. In adjusting the extension ends they are swung upon the pin 6 as illustrated in Fig. 2 and then turned downwardly to bring the desired notches 9 into cooperating relationship with the clip ends 8.
I may, asshown in the drawings, instead of using clips".7 and notches 9 to hold the bolster ends in adjusted positions, use crossbars 10 connecting the upper edges of the side plates 4 and provide the bolster with notches 11 to receive said crossbars.
I claim:
1. In combination with a bolster, extension ends for said bolster having swinging support thereon whereby to swing upwardly with reference thereto and being slidably connected with said bolster and cooperating notch and notch receiving means holding said bolster ends in adjusted position.
2. In combination a bolster, bolster ends, parallel plates secured to said bolster ends on opposite sides thereof and projecting therefrom along the sides of said bolster, said plates having slidable swing connection with said bolster and a fixed cross bar and slot connection between said plates and bolster for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
RICHARD IVARNER.
