Description

C. l. )ACKYON- WIRE KNOT.-
APPLlcMmN `man Aue.29, 19u.
Patented Mar. 19, 1918.-.
INVENTQR Carra; J; Taelman ,ATTOHTEY CARRIE '1. JACKSON, or PEPIN, Wisconsin.
WIRE-Knorr.
Speeication of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 19, 1918,.
l Application led August 29, l191'?. Serial No. 188,799.
- To'aZZ whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, Canina I, JACKSON, 'a citizen of the United States, residing at Pepin, in the county of Pepin and State of l/Visconsin, have invented certain new and useful yImprovements in Wire- Knots, of
which the following is a. speciiication.
- This invention has relation to a method of forming' knots in interlocking strands of wire fencing and has t'or an object to provide a method of. 'forming a knot which is secure against all strain which vmay be applied thereto under normal conditions, but,
- ment of the same in any direction. To 'inrther secure the strands together, the loops which may be united by means ot' a tool.
In addition to the foregggoinp,- my invention coniprehends improvements in the details of construction and arrangement of the parts to be hereinafter more fully described and particularly set forth in the appended claim. In-the accompanying drawings in which similar and corresponding parts are designated by the same characters of reference.
throughout the several views in which they appear:
Figure 1,'1sa View showingJ one horizontal and two vertical strands of a wire fencing interlocked in accordance with my invention.
Fig. 2, is a View of one of the knots in side elevation, and
Fig. 8, is a View showing the loops of the notch distorted so as to more clearlyillu'strate 'their construction andl relation.
With reference tothe drawings, 10 indi- .catesthe horizontalstrand, and 11 the vertical strand of a wire `fencing'. With particular reference to Fig. 3 it will be seen that the horizontal strand is bent around the .vertical strand to form a loop 12 in one direction, and then bent again around the'vertical strand in an opposite d1reet1on to form a loop 13, whereby the openings in the loops willbe in exact vertical alinemcnt.' The horizontal strand is then continued on 1n alinement with the portion of the strand As stated above the loops l2 and 13 thus formed around the Vertical strand are arranged with their openings in exact vertical alinement wherebythe Vertical strand may be passed through both of said loops. To se-l cure the vertical strand in place, that portion thereof between the loops l2 and 13 is grasped by means of a. tool, such as a pair 0f pliers, and a. loop formed therein by twistU ingr the tool, said loop being indicated at lll.
Thus it will be secnlthat the vertical and horizontal strands will be securely locked together absolutely preventing relative move- 12 and 13 of the horizontal strand may be pressed together upon the loop lll by means of pliers to secure the formation shown in Fia'. l.
it will 'be obvious, that the knot may be readily united or the Vertical and horizontal strands disengaged by merely nntwistingjthe loop 14 whereby the vertical strand vwill be suiiciently straightened to permit its withdrawal from the loops of the horizontal strand. y
l Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Let loop in one direction, then twisting the strand in an opposite direction to form a second loop. iabove'the first, then twisting `that portion of the Vertical strand which is disposed between the loops into a third loop, and finally bending the loops of the horizontal strand toward each other to engage the loop of the vertical strand therebetween.
In testimonyiwhereof I affix my signature inpresence of two witnesses.
Mns. CARRIE I. JACKSON. Witnesses:

ANGELiNA' PETERSON.
