Fig. L. u wlucl.
ln the druwings 10 represents :l wheel felly. only u portion (hereof being shown iu the drawings. About thefelly 1s shrunk u felly hund 11. one edge of Awhich is formed with un inclined shouldcrloi ange 12 on which the rim is uduptcd to seat. The opposite side of the felly bund is cut. uwny or inclined fis shown nt 13 to provide a sent for one side of the Wedgeclamp. Through the felly are p aed a number of bolts 14 provided wit heads 15 bcarin on pluies 1G arranged around the whees nud having radially extended portions 17 which form ubufments for the felly band.
A rim 18 of uny well known type may be is u .side rlevz'illon of u portion of opposite rib comes over the tapered portionv 19 und the two tapered surfaeesform u V shaped recess or space into which the ends of the clampingV` lugs may be forced to space und clamp the rim.
Arranged ou each bolt 14 is e wedgeclump-or` lug 20. This clam is slotted at 21 to pass over' the 'bolt and 4u lovy, for a cer tainamouut of A,diei movementjin'mountingend demounting the-rim. Wg''- .Clemp 'A 1"' throughout' f-h jectionablel fentiiifes`f'-result fromf, he construction. There will be u tendency to, bend tlul holt to malte the'surfncesooincide if considerable force is used in tiglitenino' the nut, und as the wedge portion of the e :nup is usually leugthencd to Amaketlie. surface incline outwardly, the pressure'. will be hornol by the upper half o f the nut, with the result thut useiich flutsurfucc of tlie nut comes into register with thenslot there will be u reluxution of pressurenthe clamp. These two difficulties are overcolrie in the construction of the clump as Shown for the reason that in this form the pressure is always exerted ou u line only at right angles to the slot. This is true inwhatev'er sition the lever is placed ns 4will be ev1dent fro'm Fig. 1, of the drawings. As a result the pressure` exerted by the nut is always uniform and there is no tendency tp bend the bolt as the line of contact is always in the same plane as theaxis of the bolt.
,Various ychanges and modifications may be made in the .construction shown without departing from `the broad feature of the invention or sacrificing any of its benefits.
Claims: l.` A mounting for spacing and securing e removable rim on Wheel including clamping means, `comprising a wedge adapted t'o enter the space between the rim and the wheel, n fulcrnm and a. surface betweenthe fulcrum and the wedge and means adapted to draw the wedge in the space, said drawing means and Suid i contact at all times.
2. A mounting for spacing and securing u removable rim on a wheel, including e clamp member provided with n transversely disposed wedge portion and a fulcrum porcxtendin surface having a lint?v tion, Suid portions beincf upon the same side of the clump member, the opposite Side of ihe clump member having a convex ortion in n direction from` the ulcruni toward tie wedge "rtion and straight in substantially right angles to the exis ofthe slot.
