Wz fnesses. [nventor aw-06% PATENT ()rrron.
DAVID HERB, OF LOCK HAVEN, PENNSYLVANIA.
' IMPRCVEMENT IN CURBINGS FOR STREETS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 125,814, dated April 16, 1872.
To all whom it may concern: Be it known that I, DAVID HERR, of Lock Haven, in the county of Clinton and State 7 of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Cast-Iron Curbing;
and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, andeXa-ct description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawing is a representation of a rear elevation of my invention. Fig. 2-is a front elevation; and Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse section of the same.
This invention has relation to curbing for pavements; and the novelty consists in the construction of a cast-iron curbplate having a braced gutter-flange and fluted top flange, as hereinafter described.
In the accompanying drawing illustrating this invention, A 7 represents the curb-plate, cast with the posts B, which are to be embedded in the earth. 0 represents a flange projectin g over the back of the plate A and transversely fluted. D represent-s flangebraces to said fluted flangef 'E designates a plateor flange projecting from the face of the plate A, to form a gutter. F designates brackets or standards supporting said plate. All the parts of the curb-plate are of iron, cast in one piece. The curbing is laid in section, each plate being provided with ears-or lugs 01, which overlap the edge of the next plate, so as to keep the whole line even. The standards or posts B are furnished with feet E, which receive the weight of earth above them when placed in the ground, and thus-keep the curb-plates firm.
This curbing is designed as a substitute for the ordinary stone curbing, and is, like it, placed along the outer line of the pavement.
Z Z represent arched openings for the passage of pipes for sewerage, gas, or water.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The iron curbing, consisting of the plate A, having the flanges O and E and postsB all cast in one piece, and having the openings Z Z, as and for the purpose set forth.
2. The curb-plate A, having the flanges U, E, and E, supports D and F, and lugs d, all cast in one piece, as and for the purpose specifled.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
DAVID HERB.
