To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I. DIRK LonnwrJ-K K011i.- MAN, residing at 45 B. Dubbeldamsche Veg, Dordrecht, Ihe Netherlands, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Collapsible Baby and Wheeling Chairs and Carriages, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to collapsible baby and wheeling chairs and carriages and has reference to a chair or a carriage of that kind which comprises two pair of legs suitably hinged together, one pair of said legs being hinged to the uprights forming the back.

It is the object .of my invention to provide for means whereby the chair or the carriage may be folded and unfolded to the opened position with the least possible trouble, another object being to increase the stability of the chair or the carriage in its unfolded position.

In carrying .out the objects above referred to I support one end of the arm rests by the uprights of the back hinged to one pair of legs and the other end by the top of the other pair of legs, and I further support the seat and the footboard by links pivotally suspended from the said arm rests.

In order that my present invention may be readily understood and carried into effect I will now proceed to describe the same fully for which purpose reference is to be had to the accompanying drawing, in whicl Figure 1 is a side elevation of a baby chair embodying the invention, in its open position; 7

Fig. 3 is a side elevation of a somewhat modified embodiment, in its opened position;

Fig. 4 is a side elevation of same folded nearly flat.

Fig. 5 is a side elevation of a further embodiment of my invention;

Fig. 7 is a detail view of the attaching means for the arms of the foot rest.

In carrying my invention into practice, to the pair of legs 1 I pivotally attach the uprights 2 of the back, the other pair of legs 3 being hinged to the pa r of legs 1 either directly by a pivot 4 (Figs. 12), or indirectly by means of a suitable system of pivotally interconnected links 5 (Figs. 3-1).

To the uprights 2 are hinged the arm rests 6, to which the leaf of the table 7 may be attached in some suitable manner, the free ends of the arm rests being adapted to engage the top of the pair of legs 3. The uprights 2 further pivotally supportthe rear end 016 the seat 8.

I now hinge to each of the arm rests 6 a suspended link 9, which serves the purpose of pivotally supporting the front end of theseat 8 and also of supporting the rear end of the arms .10 carrying the footboard 11, the front end of the said arms 1.0 being either pivotally mounted to the lower end of another pair of suspended links 12 hinged to the arm rests 6, as shownin Figs. land .2, and also Figs. 5 and 6, or it maybe pivotally attached to the pair of legs .3 as shown in Figs. 3 and 4. In the first case the arms 10 are pivotally attached to the links 9., while in the latter case the said arms are adapted to engage the lower ends of these links in the manner indicated in Fig. 7, so as to be readily disengaged therefrom when the seat .or the carriage is to be folded.

If the arms 10 are suspended from links 9 and 12 hinged to the arm rests G. the. seat, the arm rests and the footboard always remain interconnected, both in the folded and the unfolded positions, so that for collapsing the seat and for unfolding it to the opened position only the free end of the arm rests 6 need be disengaged from, or engaged with the top of the pair of legs 3.

If however the arms 10 are pivotally connected to the pair of legs 3, then these arms must first be disengaged from the links 9 and the arm rests 6 must as usual be disengaged from the top of the pair of legs 3, before the seat or the carriage can be folded flat. This latter arrangement is therefore only used, if the legs of the chair or of the carriage are relatively short, as shown in Figs. 3 and 4.

In the form of embodiment shown in Figs. 1 and 2 the pair of legs 1 and 3 are connected by means of the braces 13 for locking the chair or the carriage in its unfolded position.

The chair as partly shown in dotted lines in Figs. 1 and 2 is so arranged that the leaf of its table may be extended, for which purpose the arm rests 6, the leaf of the table 7 and the pair of legs 3 are provided with extended portions suitably hinged thereto. For this purpose the braces 13 are extended as at 14, and provided with slots for effecting the locking of the chair or the carriage by engaging the cross bar or the studs in the pair of legs 3.

Wherever the specification refers to a piv-' cases wherein four members hinged together- --do not form a parallelogram.

The drawing only shows some forms of vention is also applicable to baby carriages or wheeling chairs, for which purpose the two pairs of legs need only be mounted on wheels.

What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In a folding chair or carriage of the type referred to, the combination, with two pairs of pivoted legs and a pair of back uprights hinged to one of said pairs of legs, of arm rests supported by said uprights and the other pair of legs, a pair of depending links pivoted to said arm rests, a footboard and a seat, said footboard and seat being both supported by said links at one of their ends.

In a folding chair or carriage of the type referred to, thecombination, with two pairs of pivoted legs and a pair of back uprights hinged to one of said pairs of legs, of a pair of arm rests pivotally connected to said uprights and to the other pair of legs, one of these connections being detachable, a pair of depending links pivoted to said arm rests, a footboard supported by said links at its rear end, and a seat supported by said links at its front end.

In a folding chair or carriage of the type referred to, the combination, with two pairs of legs suitably hinged together and a pair of back uprights hinged to one of said pairs of legs, of a pair of arm rests pivoted to said uprights and adapted to engage the top portion of the other pair of legs, two pairs of depending links pivoted to said arm rests, a footboard pivoted to and suspended from said pairs of links, and a seat pivoted to one of said pairs of links and to said back uprights.

In a folding chair or carriage of the type referred to, the combination, with two pairs of crossed legs suitably hinged together, adjustable means for locking said legs in their open position,-and a pair of back uprights hinged to one of said pairs of legs, of a pair of arm rests pivoted to said uprights and adapted to engage the second pair of legs, two pairs of dependinglinks pivoted to said arm rests, a footboard pivoted to and suspended from said pairs of links, a seat pivoted to one of said pairs of links and to said back uprights, a pair of bars pivoted to and adapted to form extensions of saidarm rests, and a pair of bars:

pivoted to and adapted to form extensions of the second pair of legs, said first mentionedpair of bars being adapted to engage said last mentioned pair of bars.
