GROSVENOR ATTEIRBURY, OF NEW YORK. N. Y.. ASSIGNOR T0 STANDARDIZED HOUSIN CORPORATION, A CORPORATION OF DELAWARE.
BUILDING-BLOCK.
Application filed May 28. 1915.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Gnosvnxon ArranoUnY, a citizen oi. the United States. residing in thecity, County and State of New York. have invented or discovered certain new and useful lmprovementsin Builclingdllocks, of which the following is a full. clear. and complete disclosure. 1
My invention relates to building blocks composed of concrete or cementitious materials, such as'are commonly employed in building operations and, briefly described. comprises a building block having one or surface, forming an integral part thereof and adapted to aline with corresponding sections on the adjacent blocks in the wall to receive and support laths, plaster-boards. wall boards and similar materials used in finishing wall surfaces.
In the drawing accompanying and torn ing a part of this specification I have illus-' trated a building block embodying my improvements and also a wall formed of my improved blocks.
Referring in detail to the drawing, 1 designates the body of the block which is formed of any ordinary composition employed in forming blocks oi this kind, and, preferably has cavities or cored openings 2 therein as is usual. The numeral 3 designates sections of 'Furrino' strips located on one of the faces of the block and formed as an integral part thereof. These sections are preferably formed. of av composition or mixture adapted to receive nails or screws after it has hardened in order that laths, boards, otc., may be secured to the strips in the usual way. Suitable materials for use in forming these strips are described in my Patents Nos. 1,140,559, dated May 25, 1915, and 1,163,060, dated December 7, 1915. In the block illustrated I have shown two sections on one face of the block and these are solocated that when the blocks are assembled in a wall Copies of this patent may be obtained for Specification of Letters Pa tent.

as shown in Figs. 2, 3. and 4:, the sections aline so as to form vertical furring strips to which laths 4 are secured by nails or screws. 5. With wallsronstrncted of concrete blocks of the ordinary type. considerable difficulty has been experienced in. preventing water passing along the joints between the blocks and reaching the plaster on the inside of the For instance, where the blocks are employed to Form partition walls, furring strips may be cast on both sides of the blocks in order that both sides of the wall may be plastered or finished. The advantages of my im proved block are believed to be obvious from the foregoing description.
Having now described my invention, What I claim is:
A concrete building block having cast on its face as an integral part thereof, a section of a furring strip formed of av cementitious mixture adapted to receive nails, said strip extending substantially across the block and having its ends beveled for the purpose described.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscrib- J osEPH lP. MARSHALL, W. F. ANDERSON.
