DISPLAY-STAND.
Specification-0f Letters 'Pa'tent.
Patented Feb. i5, 191%.
Application fild Sbte'mbr 14,1916. Sei'ial Ila- 120,1149.
To all whom at may concern:
Be it known that we, Morris LEON and LAILP'HA B. Vance, "GItlZEDS of *the United State residing at Fortsmith i n the county of Sebastian and State 'of Arkansas, have invented certain new and msefial Improvements in Display 'stands, =of which the followi'ng is a specification, r'eferenc'e being had therein tothe accom anying drawin This invention has reference to display arranged to be supported, when desired, by a T standito hold shoes, boxes, etc, o f a more rigid nature than fabric articles that can be draped over such stands, a holder of this general type being disclosed by our copending application "for Letters Patent on 'improvements in display holders, file'd March 11, I916, Ser. No. 83,524.
"It is an object of the present "invention i so to form such a holdertha't it not only can 'on and be supported by such a stand, but "also may *be attached conveniently to and be supported by other supports and be readily removable therefrom.
When read "infconn'ec'tion with the description herein, the details at construction and arrangement of the parts contemplated by the invention will be apparent from the accompanying drawing, forming part h reof, wherein an embodiment of the invention is disclosed, for purposes of illustration.
Like reference-characters refer to correspondingjpart's in the views of the drawing, of Wh'ic'h Figure 1 is a side view of the holder on a stand;
F ig. 2 is a view of the holder on a molding or the like;
Fig. 3 is a view of the holder supported by a fixed headed member; and
Fig. 4 is a back View of the holder.
aving more particular reference to the drawing, A designates a base, B a standard, and C a cross-piece of a T-stand such as is commonly used for display purposes in stores and elsewhere for display of fabric articles that may be draped over the crosspiece; D designates a fixed substantially horizontal member, such as molding; and E designates a fixed substantially vertical member, such as a piece of paneling, having extending therefrom headed members F, such as tacks, nails, screws, or the like.
able material,
ed to be used i'nd ependently of such a stand, as well as with it.
For this purpose, the invention provides a holder that includes a platform '5, "Which "preferably is *nqadeof sheet metal, but which also may be made of wood or other suit The platform has at its noranal lmver end a flange 6 extending "upwardly with respect to the surface of 'the platform and which may bending when pliable material is used for the platform, this flange being for the pur pose of retainin articles on the platform when it is in an inclined position. The platform has i'n its upperportion at a place removed from itsupper end ah'ook or other suitable projection 7 at each side ad'aptedfto engage a horizontal member such as the cross-piece C of a T-sta-nd, and when the platform is made of pliable material the hooks or projections may be formed by shtting and ben'ding'the finaterial.
Near the portion the platform that is =Iiormally the "lower there is hinged. on the back thereof an arm 8, having at its free end an indentation "or seat 9 arranged to embrace an upright member such as the standard B of a T-stand, so that, when the hooks or projections 7 are engaged with a cross member, the arm will act as a strut to maintain the by Fig. 1. The arm 8, if desired, is made of two pieces overlapping each other and slidable one with respect to the other, and these pieces are held adjustably together by a clamp 10 whereby the arm may be made longer or shorter and the inclination of the platform thereby altered as desired. In order to keep the arm 8 outstanding from the back of the platform, so that it is in position for engagement with a standard or other part, and to keep it from swinging against the platform when the device is used indebe formed by pendently of a stand or the like,'a strut 11 is hinged at or near the free end of thearm and arranged to contact with the upper surface of the platform at a place removed from the connection of the arm and platform, and the free end of the strut may be held in engagement with the platform by a hook or other projection 12, which may be formed by bending when the material is pliable. The hinged connections of the arm with the platform and .strut permit those parts to V be folded against the. platform. when desired. The strutrseryes to support the upperrpart of the platform. when the. holder is placed on a counter or .the like.
. An opening 13 is formed in the upper portion of the platform to permit a standard or other. similarnpright support to project therethrough ;.when 1there is no crosspiece onthe standard or when it is desired to place the holder below a cross-piece. In
order toenable theplatform thus to be placed without removingia crosspiece or other. projection, a slot 14 extends from its edge to theopeningto accommodate the up right while the platform is being placed on orlfemoved from it.
, In order to enable the holder to be associated with a cross-piece of a T-stand at a lower place than when the hooks or projections 7 engage that member, the upper end of theplatform is formed with a downturnedflange 15 preferably disposed at an acute angle with respect thereto, and formed bybending the upper end portion of the platform when itis ofpliable material. The flange is arranged to engage over the crosspiece, and the arm 8 then engages the standard and maintains the platform at an inclination, as shown by Fig. 1. In like mann3r,.the flange may be employed in supporting the platform on a molding or the like, as shown by Fig. 2, in which case the flange engages over the molding or the like and the free end of the arm 8 seats against a wall out of theimaterial of the platform or the like below and maintains the platform at the desired inclination.
The flange 15 is formed with a slot 16 extending upwardly from its lower edge and adapted to receive a headed member, such as a tack, nail, screw, or the like F, whereby the platform may be supported as shown by Fig. 3. In this case the head of the member F by overlapping the edges of the slot 16 may maintain the platform at the proper inclination; or, of course, the free end of the arm 8 by contact with the panel, wall, or other part below the member may maintain. the desired inclination as in the other modes of use of the platform. In any of these cases, the length of the arm 8, and thereby the degree of inclination of the platform, may be altered by loosening the clamp 10 and moving the parts with respect to each other and then tightening the clamp.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A platform for display-holders formed of sheet metal and arranged to be mainform being bent upwardly at its lower end to form an article-retaining flange, bent downwardly at the sides intermediately of the ends to form projections for engagement with a supporting cross-piece, and bent downwardly at its upper end to form a flange for engagement with a supporting cross-piece, said flange having a slot for reception of a headed member, and there being in the platform between its ends an opening for reception of an upright support, and an arm hinged to the lower portion of the platform and arranged at its free end to engage a fixed part.
In witness whereof, we affix our signatures.
