' lowing is a full and clear specification.
lll?
The object of this invention is to provide a moistening attachment for cigarette, .cigar and tobacco boxes and jars, and the invenltion consists 1n certain novel features of construction hereinafter described and claimed.
ln the drawing- Figure l isa perspective view ot a cigarette box provided lwlth my device;
Fig. 2 is a detail perspective view holder for the sponge or other absorbent;
Fig. 3 is a detail vertical sectional view through the cover ot the box and the sponge holder therein; and
Fig. l is a horizontal sectional view on the line 4 4 ot Fig. 3. l
'lhe holder for the spo sorbent consistsiof asubstan or other abbox having an open top d a closed bottom, one or more solid walls a and one or more toraous at b. e of the solid walls is provided with a dove-tail groove termed by bending the wall inwardly, this grve being open at both its upper and lower' ends. @n the interior of the back wallof the cover ol the ci rette box or other tobacco receptacle is 'astened a vertical nge o whose edges are beveled to ht snugly within the dove-tail groove in the spon holder. htter the sponge or other Aabsoreut is put into the holder, the holder is slipped, open lside upward, onto the rib or Harige' c, the tit ot the dange in the groove bemg suciently tight to frictionally hold the sponge receptacle in place again@ the top wall ot the ot theV cover, the top wall ot the cover thus serving as a cover for the sponge-holding receptacle.
'lhe depth ot the sponge-holding receptacle is less than that of the cover, so that when.
the cover is closed the bottom of the spongeholder will not Contact with the cigara'cigarettes or tobacco in the box or j ar. llt will be observed that the moisture from the sponge passes out through the foraminous walls b and `thus keeps the tobacco goods properly moistened. y
lt will be observed that `it is essential in my device to employ a flanged or cupped lid, that is, to support the absorbent-holder above the tobacco space of the box.
lt will be observed that the rib or dange c terminates short of the lower edge ot the back wall ot the lid, thereby leaving the entire lower edge of the lid free of obstructions, whereby the sponge-box may be more readily slipped onto the tlv :i e, the dat unobstructed ower edge ci the wall seray t to a in y: ding the box when it is slipped onto the 'ange e nature and scope ol the invention havbeen thus indicated and its plreterred emboent having been specilica y described, what is claimed as new 1s:
ln combination with a receptacle of the class set forth havin a ged top" having a vertical dove-tail "i on its back wall, said rib teating short ot the lower edge ot said bachwall, an absorbent-holderconsisting of a box having an open top and one or more toraminous walls and one or more solid walls, one of the solid walls being provided with an open-ended dove-tail groove adapted to irictionally lit the dove-tail Harige on the cover.
lin testimony whereof l hereunto adix my signature.
