To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM E. PARTIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Waelder, in the county of Gonzales and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in PlOWSlJOCkS, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved plow stock and the principal object of the invention is to provide a plow stock whlch will be adjustable so that the angle of the foot piece carrying the plow blade may be controlled thus causing the plow blade to enter the ground at the proper angle according to the type of ground being plowed.
Another object of the invention is to so construct this plow stock that it may be easily adjusted when so desired and securely held in place and prevented from slipping.
Another object of the invention is to so construct this stock that the angle of the foot piece may be controlled through the medium of a hand lever pivotally connected with the plow beam and in operative connection with a rack.
Another object of the invention is to so construct this device that it will be simple in structure but at the same time very strong and durable and to further so construct that it may comprise a comparatively few number of parts.
This invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a view showing the improved plow stock in side elevation.
Fig. 2 is a view showing the improved stock in top plan.
Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 1 with one handle and its bracing bar removed.
Fig. 1 is a vertical sectional view of the plow stock taken along the line l1 of Fig. 3.
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the foot piece used in connection with this plow stock.
The plow beam is of a general ll-shaped structure as shown in Figs. 1 and 3 and has its rear end portion connected with the shoe 11 by fasteners 12, the beam being secured adjacent the forward end portion of this shoe to the rear of the goose neck or head 13. The handles 14 have their lower ends fitting against the sides of the plow beam 10 above the shoe 11 and engaged by the yokes or clamps 15 which clamps are Specification of Letters Patent.

carried by the securing bolts 16 passing through the ends of the handles and through the plow beam. Bracing bars or straps 17 are connected with the handles by fasteners 18 forward of the cross bar 19 and have their forward ends connected with the plow beam by fastener 20. The handles will thus be securely connected with the plow beam above the shoe 11 and will be held against move ment and braced against strain.
The actuating lever 21 is provided at its lower end with a forwardly extending arm 22 pivotally mounted upon a bolt 23 passing through an opening 2 1 in the plow beam and serving not only as means for pivotally mounting the lever 21 but further serving as securing means for the rear or lower end of the plate 25. This plate 25 extends along the side face of the plow beam and has its upper or forward end engaged by the bolt 26 passing through the opening 27 in the plow beam and serving as a fastener for the upper or forward end of the rack 28. This rack 28 has its rear or lower end pro vided with a slot 29 through which passes a fastener bolt 30 passing through the handles as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 and carrying abutment nuts 31 engaging opposite side faces of the rack to hold the rack against transverse movement. A strip 32 is secured to the adjusting lever by fasteners 33 and bent intermediate its length to provide a pocket 3 1 through which the rack 28 passes and has its lower end portion bent to extend in spaced relation to the lever and with the lower end portion of the lever form a bearing pocket in which the upper end of the link 35 is pivotally mounted by the fastener 36. A set screw 37 is carried by lever 21 and when tightened will engage the rack 28 thus securely but releasably holding the lever against movement.
The plow blade will be secured to the neck portion 38 of the foot piece which foot piece is formed from a strip bent intermediate its length to provide arms extending parallel to provide the neck 38 and having their free end portions bent outwardly and then extended parallel to provide arms 39 which arms extend upon opposite sides of the plow beam and are connected by bolts 40 and 11. The bolt 40 connecting the rear end portions of these arms 39 passes through the lower end portion of the link 35 and carries a sleeve 12 shown in Fig. 4 to hold the link a ainst transverse movement. Therefore when the lever 21 is swung it will rock the foot piece upon its pivot pin or bolt 43 and the strain will come longitudinally upon the link 35 thus preventing danger of the link being bent. When this lever is moved, it-will be readily seen that the angle of neck 38 of the foot piece will be changed and of course the pitch of the plow blade regulated according to the incline of the neck. Y By pr0- viding the elongated openings shown in Figs. 1 and 3', the position of the rack and lever can be regulated thus making it possible to adjust the same so that it will be convenient for the person operating the plow. It has been stated that the tightening of bolt or set screw 37 will hold the lever in an adjusted position but it is desired to point out'that as additional securing means, the bolt 41 may be tightened thus doing away with any possible slipping in case the ground being plowed is very hard or sticky. When this bolt 41 is tightened, it brings the arms 39 into tight engagement with the plow beam thus providing a firm gripping action which assists set screw 37 in holding the footpiece and lever against movement.
I have thus provided-a plow stock which can be readily adjusted and quickly adjusted and which is so constructed that after being adjusted, it will be securely held in the adjusted position and prevented fromslipping.
What is claimed is 1'. A plow stock comprising a ground engaging shoe, a plow beam having its rear end portion connected with the shoe, a foot piece pivotally connected with the forward end portion of the shoe and extending to the rear of said plow beam, 'a link pivotally connected with the rear end portion of the foot piece, handles connected with the plow beam, a rack connected with the handles and with the plow beam, and a lever pivotally connected with the link and extending in operative relation to the rack and having an arm extending forwardly and pivotally connected with the plow beam.
2. A plow stock comprising a ground engaging shoe, a plow beam connected with said shoe, a foot piece pivotally connected with the forward end portion of said shoe and having arms extending upon opposite sides of said plow beam, fasteners connecting said arms, one of said fasteners when tightened drawing the arms into binding engagement with the plow beam, a link pivotally connected with the second fastener, a lever pivotally connected with the link and having an extension pivotally connected with the plow beam, and a rack extending in operative relation to the lever.
3. A plow stock comprising a ground engaging shoe, a foot piece pivotally connected with the shoe, a plow beam connected with the shoe, handles connected with the plow beam, a cross pin connecting the handles, a rack adjustably mounted upon the cross pin, a link pivotally connected with the rear end portion of the foot piece, a lever pivotally connected with the link and extending in operative relation to the rack, a strip extending along the rear end portion of the plow beam, and fasteners adjusta-bly connecting the strip with the plow beam, one of the fasteners serving as means for pivotally mounting the lever.
A. A plow stock comprising a. ground engaging shoe, a foot piece pivotally connected with the forward end portion of the shoe, a plow beam having its rear end portion curved and connected with the shoe, handles extending from the plow beam, a rack connected with the plow beam and with the handles, a lever pivotally connected with the plow beam, a strip secured to the lever and extending about the rack to slidably connect the lever with the rack, and a link pivotally connected with the rear end portion of the foot piece and having its upper end portion pivotally mounted between the lever and the lower end portion of the strip.
5. A plow stock comprising a ground engaging shoe, a foot piece pivotally connected with the shoe, a plow beam connected with the foot piece, handles extending from the plow beam, a strip, fasteners passing through slots in the plow beam to slidably connect the strip with the plow beam, a rack having its forward end portion mounted upon one of the fasteners and having its rear end portion provided with a slot, a lever pivotally mounted upon the second fastener, a fastener carried by the handles and passing through the slot of the rack, a link pivotally connected with the rear end portion of the foot piece and pivotally connected with the lower end portion of the lever, means slidably connecting the lever with the rack, and means carried by the lever to engage the rack and releasably hold the lever in an adjusted position.
