7 By reason of the spiral arrangement of the grooves, B, on the cylinder,A, the hook or'j aw, E, must trend obliquely with respect to the body block,
I D, and it is also necessary to make the plate books as rights and letts- E, trending in oppositely oblique directions for use on the sides and ends respectively, of the plate. In the plate hook shown in the above mentioned patent, the portion of the jaw member, E, which engages the guide grooves, D is shown as circular, thus'perof the hook or jaw member, E, are curved as indicated in Fig. 2 to permit limited rotation of the jaw between the side walls of the block, D, but preventing complete rotation or reversal of the jaw within the block; :This permits the jaw, E, to accommodate itself to any inaccuracy in the edge of the plate, and would permit intentional obliquernounting of the plate on the drum, A, w1thin certainliniits, desired.
I claim 2-- 1. In combination with a. printingpress having a rectangular groove in its bed and a series of holes disposed at intervals in the bottom of such groove; a plate hook ior securing a printing plate on said bed,
comprising a body block formed to fit in said groove; means projecting from the bottom ot' the block to engage one of said holes in the groove bottom; gripping means adapted for protrusion fromthe sides of the block to engage the side walls of the groove,
and means for protruding or releasing "said gripping means at will."
2. In combination with a printing press having a rectangular groove in its'bedand a series of holes disposed at intervals in the bottom of such groove; a plate hook for securing a printing plateon said bed, comprisinga groove; means projecting from the bottom of the block to engage one of said, holes in the groove bottom; gripping pins adapted for protrusion from the sides of the block to engage the'side walls of the groove, and means for protruding orfreleasing said gripping pins at will.
3. In combination with va printing press having'a rectangular groove'in its bed and a series of holes disposed at intervalsin the bottom of such groove; a plate. hook for securing'a printing plate on said-bed, comprising a body blockformed to fit in said groove; means-projecting fromf the body block formed to fitin said 1 bottom of the block to engage one of said holes in the grooved bottom; obtusely pointed gripping pins adapted for protrusion from the sides of the block to engage the side wallsof the groove, and'means for protruding orreleasing said gripping pins at will.

In 'combination with a printing press having a'rectang'ular groove in its bed and a series of holes disposed at intervals in the bottom of such groove; a plate hook for securing a printing plateon saidbed, comprising a body block formed to. fit in said groove; means projecting from the bottom of the block to engage one of said holes'infthe groove bottom; a pair of headed pins mounted in the side Walls of the block with their heads within said block, and a wedge mem ber adapted to be forced between said heads for protruding said pinsinto gripping en'- gagement with the side walls of the groove.

In combination with. a 'printingIpre'ss having'a rectangular grooveinits bed and a series ct -holes disposed at intervals in the bottom of such groove; a plate hook ior securing a printing plate on said bed, comprising ,a -body block formechto f fit in said groove means projecting fromthe bottom of the blockto engage one "of said holes in e g ve b tt m; tr it; i -h e d. pins mounted in the side walls of the block with their heads within said block, and a screw in the block having a tapered portion positioned between the heads of said pins and adapted to wedge the pins apart and into engagement with the side walls of the grOoVe when said screw is advanced in the block.
6. In combination with a printing press having a rectangular groove in its bed and a series of holes disposed at intervals in the bottom of such groove; a plate hook for securing a printing plate on said bed, comprising a body block formed to fit in said groove, and a screw mounted in the block having a reduced end portion dimensioned to fit any one of said holes in the groove bottom, said screw being mounted for upand-down adjustment in the block for varying the protrusion of its reduced end therefrom.

In combination with a printing press having a rectangular groove in its bed and a series of holes disposed at intervals in the bottom of such groove; a plate hook for securing a printing plate on said bed, comprising a body block formed to fit in said groove a screw mounted in the block having a reduced end portion dimensioned to fit any one of said holes in the groove bottom, said screw being mounted for up-and-down adjustment in the block for varying the protrusion of its reduced end therefrom; and gripping de-, vices adapted for protrusion in respectively opposite directions from the sides of the (topics of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the block for engaging the side walls of the groove, the said screw having a tapered portion adapted to act as a wedge for effecting such protrusion of the gripping devices.
8. In combination with a printing press having a rectangular groove in its bed and a series of holes disposed at intervals in the bottom of such groove; a plate hook for securing a printing plate on said bed, comprising a body block formed to fit in said groove; a screw mounted in the block having a reduced end portion dimensioned to fit any one of said holes in the groove bottom, said screw being mounted for up-and-down adjustment in the block for varying the protrusion of its reduced end therefrom; said screw having a tapered portion and gripping pins mounted in the block in position to be protruded laterally therefrom for engaging the side walls of the groove when said tapered portion of the screw is advanced between said pins, the reduced end of the screw protruding normally a slight distance from the bottom of the block and being farther protruded by such advance of the screw for protruding the gripping plns.
