In carrying out my invention I provide a suitable frame consisting of two side mem bers 6, and 7, each provided with a suitable journal bearing 8 in which is supported a shaft or spindle 9, on this shaft or spindle is located a large gear wheel 10 which is de signed to mesh with a gear pinion 11, mounted on the shaft 12, which is also supported in bearings 13, formed in each member constituting the frame. On the projecting end 14 of the shaft 12 may be applied a crank-handle by which the device may be placed in operation by hand or on said shaft may be located a pulley by which the machine may be driven by power.

In the frame and directly beneath the cutting disk is located a grooved roller 25, this is also mounted on a short shaft or a pair of projecting lugs which havebearing in the journals 26 formed in the frame. The surface of the roller is provided with a pair of grooves 27 as that shown in Fig. 4 and in which the cutting edge of both disks. project. This roller revolves by means of the frictional contact of the hoop during the rotation of the machine.

In order to permit the hoop to freely move through the machine and-t0 avoid friction I provide in the frame a pair of said frictional rollers 28, one supported on each member of the frame and supported between projecting integral lugs 29 formed on each .100 frame, the rollers passing through slots formed in such members and of such depth as topermit the periphery of each frictional roller to be shortly beyond the alinement of the inner surface of each frame. substantially as specified.
4. A machine of the-class described comprising a suitable frame, a pair of splitting disks rotatably mounted therein, feeder pinslocated between said splitting disks which pins contact with the material to be split for feeding the same, a grooved roller carried; in the frame below the splitting disks and having its grooves located in proper relation with the splitting disks over which the material tobe cut isplaced and-a guide mechanism for directing the split ,section of thevhoop, away from the splitting disks.
