To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HENRY subject of Great Britain, mouth, in Province of Nova Scotia, Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hat-Cord Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in a hat cord holder and one of its objects is the provision of a device of this character, which shall be simple, durable and eliicient, and which may be manufactured and sold at a comparatively low cost.

Another object of this invention is to provide a securing disk having a countersunk opening to receive a knotted end of a hat cord, whereby the disk may be inserted through a buttonhole of a garment to prevent a hat connected to the cord from blowing away.

A further object of this invention is to provide a locking disk slidable on the cord and detachably secured to the securing disk, whereby garment adjacent J. DOUCETTE,

each side of a the buttonhole will be tightly clamped to prevent the securing disk from being accidentally pulled through the buttonhole freeing the hat cord.

A still further object of this invention is to provide an internally screw threaded sleeve on the securing disk for receiving the screw threaded shank on the locking disk for detachably securing the disks together.

With these and other objects in view as will become more apparent as the descrip tion proceeds, the invention consists in certain minor features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.

For a complete understanding of my invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of a hat cord holder, constructed in accordance with my invention,

Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on the line 33 of Fig. 1.

Referring in detail to the drawing, the

residing at Yarnumeral 1 indicates a disk constructed from any desired material and having a countersunk opening 2 in the center thereof to receive one end of a hat cord 3 which is knotted as illustrated at A. The knot l being located in the countersunk portion of the opening 2, so that the knot will be below the plane of the outer face of the disk 1. A cylindrical sleeve 5 is formed on the disk 1 and is internally screw threaded to receive a screw threaded shank 6.

The screw threaded shank 6 has an opening 7 to receive the hat cord 3 and is formed centrally upon a locking disk 8 which may be constructed from any desired material. The locking disk 8 is provided with a central opening 9 in registration with the open ing 7 of the shank 6 for allowing the hat cord 3 to pass through the locking disk.

In operation, a hat is secured to the cord 3 in any desired manner and the securing disk 1 is then extended through a buttonhole of a garment, allowing the cylindrical sleeve 5 to extend through the buttonhole to the opposite side to receive the screw threaded shank 6. By threading the shank 6 into the sleeve 5, the disks will be drawn in the direction of each other tightly clamping the garment upon each side of the but tonhole, thereby preventing the securing disk from being accidentally withdrawn from the buttonhole while in use.

While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it will be understood that minor changes in construction, combination and arrangement of parts may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim is 1. A hat cord holder comprising a securing disk having a countersunk opening, a cord extending through the opening and tied in a knot, said knot being disposed within the countersunk opening, an internally screwthreaded sleeve formed on the disk and having the cord extending therethrough, a locking disk slidable on the cord, and a screwthreaded shank formed on the locking disk and surrounding the cord, said shank being threaded in the sleeve to clamp a portion of a garment between the disks.

2. A safety appliance comprising a securing disk and a locking disk, means for detachably securing the disks together, and

means for permitting an element to be passed through said means and disks for securing an article to the disks.

8. A safety appliance comprising a securing disk and a locking disk, each of said disks having an opening, an internally screwthreaded sleeve formed on the secur ing disk and surrounding the opening thereof, and a screwthreaded stud having an opening formed on the locking disk and having its opening in alinement With the opening of said locking disk, said shank being threaded in the sleeve for detachably securing the disks together and for permitting a cord to pass through the disks and shank.
