HOSPITAL-COT AND OPERATING-TABLE.
fipecification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 10, 1917.
Application filed May 24, 1916. Serial No. 99,519.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM BROWN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Seattle, in the county of King and State of Washington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hospital-Cots and Operating-Tables, of which the following is a full, true, and exact specification.
My invention relates to hospital cots and operating tables and has for its principal object to provide an improved and novel form of combination cots and operating table; to provide a table having a flexible top which may be entirely separated from the remaining portion of the table without removing the patient therefrom.
Other objects will appear as my invention is more fully explained in the following specification, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claims:
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a plan of my device with arts broken away. Fig. 2 is a side elevatlon of same with parts broken away. Fig. 3 is a fragmentary end elevation.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, numerals 1 and 2 indicate side frame members which are held in spaced relationship to each other by means of rods 3 which are secured to the former and pipe members a which are secured to the latter. When in .an assembled position the rods 3 fit within the pipe members 4. Side members 1 and 2 are provided with auxiliary side members 5 and 6 respectively which are hinged to the said side members 1 and 2. Auxiliary members 5 and 6 are provided with rods and tubes 3 and l the same as side members 1 and 2. A flexible canvas member 7 is stretched above the tubular members l and around the end of the outer tubular members so as to form a continuous bed on top of the said tubular members. An extension sleeve 8 and a thumb screw 9 permit of the raising and lowering of the outer end of the auxiliary members 5 and 6. Frame members 1 and 2 are provided with tubular legs 10 having wheels 11 on their lower end. Short legs 12 are secured in an lmproved removable fashion to the side members 1 and 2 and are adapted to fit adjustably withln the tubular legs 10. Thumb screws 13 provide means for settin and adjusting the relationship of the sald legs 12 and tubular legs 10. Lazy tongs 14: connect the legs 10 so that when the top members or side members 1 and 2 are removed from engagement with the legs, the said legs may be drawn together so as to occupy a small space and at the same time be positively connected together. It will be noted that my combined cot and operating table are adjustable as to height and that when used as a cot, the side frame together with the leg 12 are separated from the legs 10 and are allowed to set directly upon the floor. When a patient is being removed from the cot or operating table, all the leg members are removed and the side frames together with a rod 3 and tube 4: and the canvas 7 in place are placed upon the bed. Side member 1 and rod 3 are then withdrawn from engagement with the canvas on one side, while the side member 2 and the tube 4 are withdrawn on the other side of the canvas, thereby leaving the canvas entirely free and separated from all other engagements with the said side members. A new canvas member may be replaced upon the frame and the table is again ready for occupancy.
While I have shown a particular form of embodiment of my invention, I am aware that many minor changes therein will readily suggest themselves to others skilled in the art without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention, and I therefore desire to avoid being limited to the exact form shown and described.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is
1. In a device of the class described, the combination of a pair of parallel and similar side members, tubular tie members secured to one of said side members, rods secured to the other of said side members and so spaced and arranged as to telescopically fit within the said tubular members, extension side members hinged to said side members and provided with rods and tubes similar to said side members.
2. In a device of the class described, the combination of a pair of parallel and similar side members, tubular tie members secured to one of said side members, rods secured to the other of said side members, and so spaced and arranged as to telescopically fit within the said tubular members, extension side members hinged to said side members and provided with rods and tubes similar to said side members, a flexible carry ing member supported by said tubular tie members 7 and separable therewith, whereby a patient resting upon the said flexible member may be left thereon and the said ties and frames may be removed.
3; In a device of the class described, the
combination of a pair of parallel and similar side members, tubular tie members secured to onerof said side members, rods secured to the other of saidside members, and so spaced and arranged as to telescopically V fit within the said tubular members, exten- Gopies of this patent may be obtained for sion side members hinged to said side memfive cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents, Washington, D. 0.
