IMPROVEMENT IN HOLDERS FOR REINS FOR HAR-NESS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 123,328, dated Febrnary', 1872.
I, TURNER BYRD, J r., of Williamsville, Cass county, Michigan, have invented an Improved Rein-Holder, of which the following is a specitication-` l Y Figure l of the drawing beinga perspective view, and Fig. 2 a sectional elevation.
This invention relates to a mechanism intended to be secured in any convenient position upon the saddle of a harness or the backband, and so contrived as to receive and hold reins, halters, dac.
Referring' to the drawing, a is the frame of the line-holder, the same being provided with holes through Wh ich to pass the screws that fasten it to the saddle, said frame having an offset, b, stan ding horizontally from nearits lower end, fromthe outer extremity of Which offset springs a standard, a, which standard, and also the frame a, is grooved lengthwise of its inner side, spiral springs d being placed within said grooves, rcstin g on which springs is a block, e, that has a tongue, j', at each end extending into the grooves above thevsprings d, and also has tongues f at each end, which extend outside of the frame a, and standard c, by all of which tongues theblock eis guided as it travels up and down. Alatch, g,isjointed at one end to the top of the frame a, therebein ga groove, h, in the top of the standard cto receive said latch when it comes down. To the outside of the standard c is secured a spring-catch, t', over the end line firmly. On releasing the latch by pressing inward on the plate k, Which is secured tothe outside of the catch z', the latch is forced up- Ward by the recoil of the springs d. The latch has a tooth, l, at its base, which tooth, after' being forced past a bar, m, that is fastened to the frame a in rear of the latch, prevents the latter from falling by reason of the catching of the tooth against the bar.
I claim as my invention- The.co1nbination of the frame a, standar c, spriii gs d, block e, latch g, and catch i, as speciiied.
