WATER-FITTING FOB. LAUNDRY-TRAYS.
incassa.,
Application filed September 6, 1916.
To all lwhom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES O. ScHooN- ovnn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles, State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in /Vater- Fittings for Laundry-Trays, of which the following is a specification.
rThis invention relates to water fitting for laundry trays and the like; and has for its object the provision of a simple form of fitting for facilitating water connections to sets of laundry trays. illustrate my invention as applied to a pair of laundry trays, although it will be understood that the invention may be, by duplication, applied to more than two trays. The illustration and description of the application for two trays sufficiently sets forth the principal features of my invention.
A preferred form of device, embodying my invention, comprises a casting made in a single piece with two water passages therethrough, said water passages being arranged in a single vertical plane, and each having an inlet connection and each having two outlet connections leading out horizontally on opposite sides of the passages for attachment of connection pipes to the valves or faucets of the trays. lt is a distinct feature of my device that the passages all lie in a single vertical plane; so that the device is flat and fits easily into the narrow space behind the trays or behind the backs of the trays.
l illustrate a preferred form of device in the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a front elevation of a pair of laundry trays equipped with my invention; Fig. 2 is a section and plan taken as indicated by lines 2 2 on Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a vertical, central section of my tting, showing its interior construction, and Fig. il is a vertical transverse section of the fitting taken as indicated by line 11C-1 on Fig. 3.
lin the drawings the numerals designate laundry trays arranged one alongside the other; and numerals 11 designate the backs therefor. These backs 11 are usually of the configuration shown, leaving a shallow space between the wall surface 12 and the backs in which the piping may be arranged. Or, if backs are not used and the faucets mounted directly in the trays themselves, the spaces behind the trays are shal- Speccation of Letters Patent.

low and restricted. Tt is an object of my invention to provide a simple one-piece device which may be set up in this restricted space and which will facilitate the connection of water to the trays. I accordingly employ a body 15, preferably a. casting, having a pair of passages 16 and 17 therethrough. The passage 16 has a lower inlet connection at 18 adapted for connection with the cold water pipe 19 and the passage 17 has an inlet connection 20 at its lower end adapted for connection with the hot water pipe 21. Immediately above the lower connection 20 the passage 17 has a horizontally extending connection 22 for connection with the pipe 23 which leads to the hot water faucet 24e of the left hand tray; and at its upper end this passage 17 has an oppositely horizontally extending connection 25 connecting with the hot water pipe 26 which leads to the hot water faucet 27 of the right-hand tray. rThe several pipes, passage 17, and the connections 22 and 25 all lie in the same vertical plane. The passage 16 lies in the same vertical plane aforesaid; and at its right side has an outlet connection 30 adapted to connect with pipe 31 which leads to the cold water faucet 32 of the right-hand tray. This passage 16 has, at its left-hand side, a connection 33 into which a nipple 31- of a connection making member 35 is screwthreaded. This connection making member also has a screw-threaded connection at 36 into the casting 15 and through the wall of the passage 17; the nipple 34 extending transversely horizontally across passage 17, which passage is enlarged at this point to provide for hot water passage around the nipple 311. The connection member 35 connects with the pipe 37 which leads to the cold water faucet 33 of the left-hand tray. All these pipes, and both passages, and all their outlets and inlets lie in one vertical plane; so that the whole piping arrangement takes up very little space behind the backs 11; as is clearly shown in Fig. 2. Each of the pipes 23, 26, 31 and 37 have special flanged elbows 40 on their outer ends. The flanges 41 of these elbows are drawn up against the rear surfaces of the backs when the faucets 24, etc., are screwed into them; and washers 12 provide for water-tight joints to prevent any water leaking back through the backs (or through the back sides of the trays when the faucets are in- 1 atented July 16, 1191"?.
stalled inthe walls of the trays themselves ratherfthanrin backs, as illustrated). The
the connections may be easily adjustable horizontally to accurately 'suit thehorizontal distance between the tubs and the horizontal distance `between the various' faucets and the 'fitti'ngl5.
Iti'wilhbe seen that I havevprovided a simple-and easily 'installed device which will" 'fit into' the restricted space behind laundryf trays or "the "likel' Although' 'the' specifici forni offdefvicelierein described is effective' as applied to 'the pair of trays; yet I dolnot restrict myself in detail to this specific lform,
'reserving the"- riglit to make whatever changes'are included within' the definition of my invention in the following claims;
