Be it known that l Enunsai Brasserie,
a citizenof the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and; use.- ful Improvements in Attachments; for Squares, of which. the following is: a SPQQ]; fication.

My device is particularly applicable for use upon a T square when rul ng: ines upon a st ncil-s et In this caseitmay b desired to rule lines of a certain length at certain p ints upon the s eet hich s readily accomplished positionlng two of the stops at, desired points upon the T square blade to form the starting andi'stopp ng points for thelinesr This enables such ines to be ruled very quickly without the danger of the lines extending too far in either direction which is particularly to beavolded in making stencil-sheets,since erasures can not readily be made.v It is, of course, ob,- vious that my improved stops may alsoad; vantageously be used in the same manner when lines are to be drawn upon drawlng paper or other substance, and also that it is not essential for the. stops to be used in pairs.
The object of my invention accordingly is to produce an improved stop of the character briefly described, having the advan tages and constructional features hereinafter more, fully set forth.
In order that a clearer understanding of my invention may be had, attention is hereby directed to the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification and illus trating the preferred form of invention. In the drawings, Figure 1- represents a plan view of a 1' square, having a pair of my improved stops'clamped thereon, Fig. 2 is a top plan view of one of the clamps on an enlarged scale, Fig. 3. is a vertical longitudinal section of the same taken on line 33 of Fig. 2, Fig. 4: is a bottom plan view, and Eig, 5 is a side elevation ofthe same.
Referring to the drawings, the stops 1,1 are represented as-clamped upon the face of the blade 2 of a'T square, the inner faces 3, 3 of the stops serving as startingv and stopping points for a pencil or pen forming ruled lines along the edge of the T square blade. Each stop is formed of a body having vertical side walls 4, .4: a top portion 5, a rear vertical wall6 and a horizontal bottom portion 7 at the end opposite to the vertical rear wall 6, The frame is thus a hollow body, having the lever 8 extending therethrough, pivoted at one end on a pin 9, mounted betweeninwardly extending lugs 10, formed on the interior ofside walls l- The lever is bent upwardly, as is shown at 11,. toward its o1 )posit'e'end,.andv is provided with an enlarged flat end portion 12, which serves as a thumb piece or handle for manipulating the same. A coiled spring 13 extends between the bottom horizontal. portion 7 and the thumb piece 12, thus normally pressing the lever upward into contact with a shoulder or rib 14 formed at the under side of the forward edge of the top portion 5 of the frame, Considering the vertical wall 6 of the frame as the rear end of the same.
It is to be understood that. the body of the stop is, an integral construction, which pref erably includes the top 5 and the rear vertical wall6, these portions of the fr an1e,how,- ever, not being essential to the operation of the device. The side walls 4 are reduced in height, toward the forward end of the same, the upper surfaces of these walls descending along the slanting line to form the portions 16 of reduced height, these forward side portions being connected by the forward wall 17 of the same height, forward and rear walls 17 and 6 preferably being curved as shown. Forward walls 16 and 17 of reduced are cut away slightly, to form shoulders 18 which 'may be practically in line with the rear edge of'the bottom horizontal portion 7 of the frame as shown. The bottom surface of the lever is provided with a similar shoulder shown at 19 at a point slightly forward of the pivot 9. The distance between shoulders 18 and 19, when the lever is in the intermediate position shown in Fig. 8, is equal to the width of the blade of the T square. Accordingly, to clamp a stop upon the T square blade it is only necessary to depress thumb piece 12 against its seat 17 position the blade 2 between shoulders 18 and 19, and release pressure upon thumb piece 12, whereupon the tendency of the lever to rise due to the pressure of spring 13 clamps the blade firmly between shoulders 18 and 19, as is shown in Fig. 3. A stop can readily be unclamped by depressing thumb piece 12, to permit the stop to he slid along the blade into any desired new position.
The side walls of the stop are cut away somewhat on their bottom surfaces, as is shown at 20, from a point somewhat to the rear of shoulder 18 to a point slightly to the rear of shoulder 19 on lever 8.
It is obvious that my invention is not strictly limited to the exact form of construction described, the form particularly described, however, being preferred as embodying the most effective operation and attractive appearance. It is obvious that the stops described may be readily clamped to and removed from T square blades or rules without marring the surfaces of the latter in the least.
Having now particularly described my invention, what I claim and desire to protect by Letters Patent is as follows 1. A detachable stop, adapted tobe slidably secured across the blade of a T square or rule, comprising a frame having side portions, and a horizontal portion at one end, a

A detachable stop, adapted to be slidably secured across the blade of a'T square or rule, comprising a frame having side portions, a lever pivoted at oneof its ends be'-' tween said side portions, adj acent one end of the frame, and spring means mounted to press the free end of-said lever upwardly, between said side portions, said lever having a transverse shoulder on its under side, adj a cent the pivot thereof, and said frame having a transverse shoulder on its under side under said lever, in alinement with the shoulder on said lever when the latter is in depressed position, said shoulders being adapted to clamp the opposite edges of the blade when said lever'is depressed, substantially as set forth. p
