To all 'wliom come-m:
is kiw /m has i, Jon's G. Fooss'fii, of Ceiifosge, is the county il eiiersoii and Estate of New York have invented eeiiain new useful improvements in Excavating-Machines; and l do hereby declare the following; to be a foil, siesta, end exaei clescriptiozo. of the some, reference being bad to she accompanying firewings, forming a sort of this specification, and to the refereiiee numemls mmkecl thereon.
My invention relates to exesveiing mselii'nes, and is has for its object to o'ffoi'fi a construction which is adootsbie to the type of machine involving e rigid connection oeiween i'oe bucket and the boom, whereby bomijusteil at difi'erens enthe boom, in order to por mit Workii 1: diiierent positions Without moving the entire machine. To these and other ends the invention eonsisis in certain improvements and combinations of "parts all as Wili be hereinafter more fully described, the novel features being pointed out in the claims at the end of the specification.

The bucket comprises a pair of scoop members 16 which are connectefi iiy means of iinks 11 to the carrier 5, the ieiter being provided with the oolis 1523 upon which ssicl links are pivoteily supportes. members 19 are pivoteliy connected together with lugs 1 upon the scoop members and eise with the ease 3&5 fosined upon a iioliier which ineluc'ies 3, base 1h"; and uipstaediog Wells 17 between which are mounie the pulieys 5.8 for guiciing the operating cable, time latter being eeioxieeteti to the holcier st 19. i
The carrier 5 is provided on its under sin face wish arms 28 between-Which ere mount ml the pulleys 21, which, it will be noted, are arranged so one side of the center oi she carrier as shown in Figs. 2 and; l. The carries and the base of she slippers ore provided central openings iiirough which passes the operating cable 22, thefisitee beifig held in props? position bymeans of the guide pulleys 23 arranged in eoiipemtive engagement upon the suppers, and mounied on the plsie 2% "which is secured to the base 3. The standards A} are provided with projections 25 to receive'the searing 26 1113011 which is mounted the pulley 27, over which the operating cable passes to the boom.
In the operation of the machine, "when it is desired to change the position of the bucket, the pin 8 is removed and the carrier may be turned upon the support until the desired angle of eaijustment is obtsineci. being again inserie l, locks the marries upon she su'epoez; homing; it rigicily in its position, While the some me peizmissing it to be quickly anal reediiy "oeci iso eiizmge its esgoisi" relationship,
The scoop F I claim as my invention: I 1. .In a hoisting machine, the combination with a boom having a support,- provided with a circular base; of a carrier embodying a flange in engagement with the upper face of the base, the base having a series .of openings extending transversely of its periphery, the carrier having an opening adapted to be alined with one of said openings in the base, a pin cooperating with the. openings in the carrier and base re- I spectively, and a bucket suspended from the carrier.
2. A hoisting machine comprising a boom, a support connected therewith having a circular base, a carrier having a flange in rotative engagement with the base, a bucket suspended from the carrier, arms extending beneath the carrier, pulleys mounted beneath the carrier, buckets pivotally con nected with the holder upon opposite sides thereof, links connecting the buckets with the carrier, pulleys mounted upon the carrier and holder and a cable having one end secured' upon the holder and extending over eeaeoo .to the boom.
4. In an excavating machine, the combination with a boom, of a support pivoted on said boom and having a centrally disposed opening in its base, a carrier rotatively mounted on the support and provided with an opening in alinement with said opening in the support, a bucket mounted on the carrier and a bucket cable passing from the boom through said openings in the support and carrier and extending downwardly toward the bucket in a vertical line. I
5. In an excavating machine, the combination with a boom, of a support mounted on said boom and having a, centrally disposed opening in its base, a carrier mounted on the support having an opening in a1inement with the opening in the support, a bucket comprising a pair of bucket members pivoted together, connecting rods secured to said bucket members and pivoted to the aforesaid carrier, a pulley mounted on the under side of the carrier, and a bucket cable passing from the boom through said openings in the support and carrier extending downwardly toward the bucket in a vertical line and cooperating with the aforesaid pulley on the carrier.
