STOVE.
Application filed June 8, 1916. Serial No. 102.462.
To all "to/tom it may concern:
Be it known that We, SntoN N, MENTEL, MARY A. ll'iEN'll'lL, and Gnomes E. llfeiiiiit, citizens of the United some. residing at Springfield, in the county of Clark and State of Ohio, hove invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stoves, of which-the following is a specification,
This invention relates to improvements in stoves, and particularly to thut type of stove employing as a fuel." I
An object-of the invention is to provide a stove of this type which will be simple in construction, economical in manufacture and effective in use.
A further object of the invention is to provide a construction whereby a perfect combustion is obtained so that any odor resulting from incomplete combustion is eliminoted.
A further object of the invention is to provide 2], construction whereby the side walls of the store are subjected to the oling el'i'ect of at current of fresh sir, which air is thereby warmed and allowed to escape into the room.
In the accompanying drawingsz-- Figure l a front elevation of n stove embodying our l.lll} )l't)VG111Qnl'S with the front grating removed.
Fig. 2 is t1 section on the line 2 of Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3 3 of Fig. 1, with the addition of the grating.
In carrying out the invention, we employ a main easing of which 1 represents the bark 2 the top, 3 the bottom and l and 5 the sides, the casing lieiug completely open at the front. Located in the casing are it series of walls constructed as a unit for the purpose of causing a circulation of the products of combustion and also of the fresh air, mnsisting of side walls (3 and 7, :1 top wall or hood tl. a vertically extendingslightly inclined rear wall l,)- which terminates at a point below the hood 8 and also at a point above the lower edges of the side walls. and an inclined auxiliary rear wall 10 which extends from the hood 8 to a. point, below and to the rear of the upper edge of the well 3; the well 9 being also located at a point well in front of the rear edges of the side wells 4; and 5.
The loii er edge of the Well 10 extends to it point in close proximity to the rear Well 1 of the main casino so that o passageway Specification of Letters Patent.

The forward side of his plate extends in close proximity to the burner 15, "which is one of ordinary gas burning form, While the rear side of the plate 12 extends up between the Walls 1 and 9,
The side wells 5! ttl'lfl 5 are provided with laterally extendin flanges 16 end the side walls (5 and 7 have laterally (amending side flanges 17 which overlap the flanges 16, these flanges not only provid ng the point of attachment for the front grating 18 (shown only in Fig. 3) but also serving to hold the interior walls in toper position in the main casing; the top E2 and bottom 3 of the main casiiig also hevii laterally extending Ages 19 to which the grating the lower edge where. they are broughtagein in intimate relation with the llziine oil. the burner so that all prmlucts of combustion will be oonsunled.
The wells (3 and T terminate atpoints above the bottom and below the top 2 and are also spaced from the walls l and 5 so .lhat an air passageway is provided between the Wells 9 and (3 and Walls 5 and 7, as indicated at 20 so eulation ofcool air between these walls which escapes at points 21 just shove the hooi 8, this air not only serving to cool the side wells iend 5 but, becoming warm dur-- ing its passage between the Walls, is dis charged in :1 more or less heated condition into the room.
fill of the Wells are preferably constructed of sheet metal, the hood and. well 10 being covered with asbestos fiber like the wall 9 and the interior of the wells l: and 5, the top 2 and flanges 16, 1'1 and 19 with asbestos boards (not shown).
The burner 15 has at each end it clown that there will be 2i Cir ea ers wardly extending lug 23 which lugs fit in loops 22 on the interior of the walls 6 and 7 so that the burner maybe easily removed when desired.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that a gas burning stove is provided which is extremely simple in arrangement and number of parts employed; also one in which the products of combustion will be circulated continuously before the flame of the burner until entirely consumed so that no unpleasant odors will result and the necessity of connecting the stove with a flue obviated.
The construction is also such that the parts of the stove may be readily removed for repairs or other purposes, it only being necessary to remove the fastening devices which secure the front grating in position, after which the burner and interior b'ailie walls may be easily removed from the main casing.
The stove may be installed in a fire place or in. the wall of the room if desired or may be provided with a base and legs so that it can be set at any convenient point in the room, up
Having thus described our invention, we claim:
1, In a stove, a main casing, a main baflie wall located in said casing having passageways above, to the rear and below the same, a gas burner located in front of said baflle wall with the gas outlets thereof above the lower edge of said wall, and an auxiliary well located between said bailie wall and said burner so as to form a continuation of the passageway beneath said baffle wall, the upper edge of said auxiliary wall extending to a point in close proximity to the gas outlet openings.
2. In a stove, the combination with a main casing, a main baflie wall therein, a hood above said wall, said main baffle wall having passageways between the upper edge thereof and said hood, to the rear of the same and beneath the same, a gas burner e, in said casing in front of said main baffle with the gas outlet portions thereof arged above the lower edge of said main bah. wall, and an auxiliary wall located between said burner and said main bailie wall so as to form a continuation of the passageway beneath said main baille wall, the upper edge of said auxiliary wall being located at a point in close proximity to the gas outlet portion of said burner.
3. In a stove, a main casing, a burner therein, a main baflle wall therein, a U-shaped plate embracing the lower edge of said baille wall but spaced therefrom, said baiile wall also having passageways about the upper edge thereof and to the rear of the same communicating with said passageways formed by said U-shaped plate, the passageways formed by said plate extending to a point in close proximity to the burner.
in a stove, main casing, a main baflie wall therein, a hood above said bafiie wall, an auxiliary bailie wall extending from hood to a point below the upper edge of said main bail'le wall so as to provide a passageway about the upper edge of said main bafile wall, said main bal'lle wall and the rear of said casing forming a passageway back of said main baffle wall, a gas burner extending across and in front of said main battle wall with the gas out let portion thereof above the lower edge of said wall, and a second auxiliary baffle wall between said burner and main baflle wall to form a continuation of the passageway beneath said main ballie wall, the passageway between said second auxiliary wall and said main ballle well being extended to a point in close proximity to the gas outlet openings of said burner.
5" In stove, a main easing, a burner therein, a main baffle wall, a hood above the upper edge of said wall, and. an. aux-- iliary ballle wall extending from said hood to a point to the rear of and below the upper edge of said main wall, a U-shaped plate embracing the lower edge of said main wall but spaced thercfroin,- said baitfie wall, hood and ll-shaped. plate forming passageways which extend. about the upper edge, behind and around the lower edge of said main bafile wall to a point in proximity to said burner.
6. In a stove, a main casing open at the front, a removable burner therein, inner side walls forming air spaces between the same and the sides of said main casing, a main bafile wall forming a passageway between the same and the rear wall. of said main casing, auxiliary walls also forming passageways about the upper and lower edges of said main baille wall,.said main baffle wall, aiilxiliary walls and inner side walls being connected together a unit and removable from said main casing.
in testimony whereof, we have hereunto set our hands this 5th day of June 1916.
