SAFETY-RAZOR.
Application filed December 8, 1913.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, ALEXANDER MAszczYK, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of Milwaukee, county of Milwaukee, and State of Wisconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in Safety- Razors, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in safety razors and it pertains, among other things, to that class 1st. To the device for attaching a heavy V shaped blade to an, operating handle.
2nd. To the device for holding either style of blade at any desired angle to the operating handle.
3rd. To the device for securing the blade to a blade inclosing shield, and
1th. To the device for adjusting and holding an operating handle at any intermediate point between the ends of the blade.
My invention is further explained by reference to the accompanying drawings in which- Figure 1 is a plan view of one form of blade and handle connected together.
ig. 2 is a side view of the blade and handle shown in Fig. 1, the handle being shown in longitudinal section.
Fig. 3 is a front view of the heavy V shaped blade part broken away to show the device for connecting the blade to the holder.
Fig. 4 represents a modified form of device for connecting heavy blades with a holder, which holder is adapted to be pivotally connected with a handle.
Fig. 5 is a transverse section drawn on line z-e of Fi Like parts are identified by the same reference numerals throughout the several views.
1 represents a blade which is adapted to be used either with the style of handle 2 or the style of handle 3. The blade 1 is provided with a longitudinal aperture 5 for the reception of the retaining rod 6 and such blade is used with the handle 3. The blade 1 is also provided at its respective ends with shallow apertures 8, 8 for the reception of the pins 9, 9, whereby the blade is prevented from turning on the retaining rod 6.
11 is a shield which is provided on one edge with a longitudinal series of teeth 12 Specification of Letters Patent.
, adjusted at any Patented May .29, 191?. Serial No. 895,201.
which are adapted to project slightly beyond the cutting edge of the blade. The shield is held in place by and between the end members 13 and 13 of the blade holder. The end members 13 and 13 are drawn toward each other and against the end of the blade and holder by turning forward the rod 6 in the threaded aperture 18, as shown in Fig. The pins 9 are inserted in the apertures 8, as shown in Figs. 3 and 4:. hen using the safety razor, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, it sometimes becomes necessary or desirable to adjust the blades and blade inclosing shield at various angles to the handle 2. To accomplish this object the bolt 19 is turned back in the threaded bearing 20 formed in the cylindrical member 21, whereby the sleeve 22 is brought slightly out of contact with the sleeve 16 whereby the blade may be desired angle to the handle, as indicated by dotted lines in Fig. 2, and when the blade has been adjusted at the desired angle the sleeve 22 and cylindrical. member 21 are again caused to impinge firmly against the surface of the transversely arrangedcylinder 16, whereby the blade is rigidly held in place at any desired point of adjustment. Experience has also proven that it is sometimes desirable to adjust the handle 2 at different intermediate points between the ends of the blades, as shown and indicated in Fig. 1. To accomplish this object the bolt 19 is again turned back in its threaded bearings 20 when the handle is adjusted toward or from either end of said blade, as shown and indicated in said Fig. 1, when it is again secured in place by turning forward the bolt 19 in the threaded aperture of the cylindrical member 21. The bolt 19 is preferably provided at its protruding end with a chase head 23, whereby the same may be manually turned forwardly or backwardly when producing the desired adjustment of the blades as described. The bolt 6 is also preferably provided at its protruding end with a chased head 2 1, whereby it may be readily manually turned when producing the required adjustment. When securing the blade 1 to the operating handle 3 I insert the retaining rod 6 through the apertures 5 when the retaining rod 6 is then inserted in the aperture 25. When this is done the cylinder 26 is inserted'in the aperture 27 of the handle when the threaded end, of the retaining rod 6 is then inserted in the aperture 28 of the cylinder 26 when said cylinder is revolved in the aperture QLQ'LiJlJC handle, whereby the retaining rod 6 is drawn into said handle and the pins 9 are caused to enter the apertures S in said blade. The cylinder 26 is thus turned until the blade and holder are rigidly secured in place in the handle 3. For brevity of description the retaining rod 6, by Which the blade and shield are supported from either style of handles, is referred to in several of the claims as supporting means.
iaving thus described my invention What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- 1. In a safety razorof the described class, a heavy V-shaped blade provided with. a longitudinal. aperture formed through the thick side of said blade, a pair of end members, means for detachably connecting said end members at right angles to the respective ends of said blade, an operating handle, and means for adjust-ably connecting said handle nearer to or "farther "from either end oi said blade.
2. In a safety razor of the described class, a heavy ll-shaped blade provided With a Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the longitudinal aperture formed through the thick side of said blade, a pair of end members respectively detachably connected with the respective ends of said blade, a rod ere tending through the thick portion of said blade, a handle, and means for adjustably connecting said handle nearer to or farther from one of said side members.
3. In a safety razor of the described class, a heavy V-shaped blade provided With longitudinal aperture formed through the thick side thereofla rod located in said longitudinal aperture, said blade being pr 3 vided With a plurality of recesses located at its respective ends for the reception of a pair of retaining pins, a pair of end members each provided with pins adapted to enter the apertures located inthe ends of said blade, and an operating handle.
In testimony whereof I aiiiX my signature in the presence of tWo Witnesses.
