To all whom it may concern.

Be it known that I, LINCOLN lVINrERs, a citizen. of the United States, residing at lVatauga, in the county of Corson and State of South Dakota, have invented new and useful Improvements in Dish-Vashing Machines,'of which the following is a specification.

The invention relates to washing machines, and more particularly to the class of dish washingmachines.

The primary obj eet of the invention is the provision of a machine of this character wherein dishes, when soiled, can be placed therein for the thorough washing of the same and thereafter said dishes drained to permit the easy wiping and polishing thereof in a convenient manner.

Referring to the drawings in detail, the washing machine comprises a.pail-like body 10 preferably made from sheet metal supporting at its open mouth top an upwardly curved or convex lid or cover 11 which has riveted on its outer face crossed reinforcing irons or braces 12, each extending to the periphery of the said lid or cover and are riveted or otherwise secured thereto. On one end of one cross brace is connected ahinge 13 which is also connected to the body 10, and in this manner the lid or cover is swingingly fastened to the body of the washing machine so that access may be had to the interior thereof. On the other end of the cross brace 12, connected to the hinge, is a latch 14 which permits the fastening of the said lid or cover closed.

Formed at equal distances apart and extending vertically or longitudinally of the body are hollow tubes or columns 15 which have the curved Opposite ends 16 opening through the body 10 for communication therewith at such points. thereby enabling the circulation of water or washing fluid contained within the body when the machine is in operation.

Removably fitted within the body 10 is a wire mesh or reticulated basket 17 in which is' adapted to be placed the dishes to be washed. The basket 17, when placed within the said body 10. is supported upon the bottom spaced therefrom so that free circulation of water may be had therethrough. The basket 17 is of a. height less than the height of the body 10 for a purpose presently described. Tapped or otherwise fastened in the body 10 close to the bottom thereof. is a valved drain faucet 18 so that the contents of the body can be drawn therefrom on the opening of the valve in the faucet.

Cut from one of the braces 12 centrally thereof is a spider 19 providing air openings 20 and this spider is struck inwardly so that the same will be depressed through a suitable opening in the lid or cover 11 to form a socket for the collar portion 21 of a worm threaded shaft 2'2, the spider being formed with a bearing 23 for the collar on said shaft 22 which has its upper end journaled in a bracket 2+t fixed to one of the braces on the lid or cover while the openings in the spider 19 permit air to enter the body 10, and secured to the inner end of the shaft 22 is the armed hub 25 of a fan or bladed wheel 26 which operates interiorly of the body above the basket 17, which is of less height than the said body, and the blades of this wheel 26 serve to act upon the water or washing fluid within the body 10 for the agitation thereof so that the dishes within the basket 17 will be thoroughly washed.

Meshing with the threaded shaft 22 is a worm gear 27 journaled at 28 in a support or bearing 29 fixed to one of the braces 12 on the lid or cover 11, and to the spoke of the worm gear wheel 28 is connected a suitable handle 30 so that it can be manually turned for imparting similar motion to the fan wheel 26 for the operation of the Washing machine.

The body 10 has exteriorly mounted thereon suitable handles 31 so that the same can be readily lifted for the carrying thereof from one place to another.

- In the operation of the washing machine, when dishes have been placed within the basket 17, which is removably held within the body 10, the steam from the hot water contained in the body will escape through the openings 20 in the center spider 19, and when the water has been drained from the body 10 and the fan wheel 26 rotated, air will be drawn in through the openings 20 for the quick drying of the dishes within the invention will be readily apparent and,,

therefore, a more extended explanation has been omitted.

Having thus described my invention, I claim:

A washing machine comprising a pail-like body having a lid hinged thereto, driving means rotatably supported ,on and movable with the lid, a fan wheel carried by the driving means and arranged immediately beneath the lid, vertical tubes arranged exteriorly of the body and each opening at the respective ends thereof into the body.
