Description

L. ROBERTSON.
ARTIHCIAL TOOTH PLATE APPLICATION TILED MAR-3.1917- 1,2%6,32u Patented Ma'y15,1917.
LUGIUS ROBERTSON, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO.
ARTIFICIAL-TOOTH PLATE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 15, 191i 7.
Application filed March 3, 1917. Serial No. 152,401.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, LUCIUS ROBERTSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Artificial- Tooth Plates of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates more particularly to plates and teeth for the lower jaw. Inasmuch as plates for the lower set of teeth are held in the mouth almost wholly by weight and gravity, it has been very diflicult to proplates which will operate properly in The object of my invention is to produce a unique and highly serviceable combination of plate and teeth which will fit the alveolar ridge in such a manner that they will hold their normal position when in place, and render the required service expected in plates of this character.
11 carrying out my invention I place the teeth inside the alveolar ridge instead of on the apex so that the teeth on the lingual side of the alveolar The various features and advantages of my inventionwill readily become apparent from the following specification.
In the accompanying drawing part of this specification,
Figure 1, is an isometric view of a plate and teeth for the lower jaw made after my invention, partly broken away to show construction,
Fig. 2, is a side view of an upper and lower plate and teeth, to illustrate how the lower set appears relatively to the upper set when made after my invention, and
Fig. 3, is a cross section on line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
The alveolar ridge is marked 1, and onto this ridge is fitted the plate carrying the artificial teeth. This plate is marked 2 and is forming Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each,
preferably made of rubber, the teeth 3 being inserted therein and connected therewith. This plate and the teeth may be made of any suitable material.
The plate or part which fits over the alveolar ridge 1 is, by me, shaped as shown in Fig. 3.
rubber of the plate enters to make a proper olding connection between the teeth and the plate. Small screws or pins 5 are also placed in the teeth, around which the rubber of the plate forms and is held in place. ese pins or screws 5 are placed in the rear or lingual side of the alveolar ridge 1, but I place them in front on the labial side. This enables me to finish the teeth and plate in a needed manner on the alveolar ridge. I build up this side materially so that the plate may be kept in the mouth more perfectly.
WVhat I claim as new and my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
l. A dental plate for the lower jaw comprising a channel-shaped curved portion to cover the alveolar ridge and a set of false teeth fastened therein, said teeth set inside the alveolar ridge so as to be flush on the lingual side, and the labial side of the teeth being flush with the inner side of the alveoit in normal position.
