Description

E. S. ELLIS.
Boot (Hamps for Base Ball Players.
N0. 122,587, Patented Jan.9,1872.
WiTNESSEL INVENTOR- wwi w -ww 0 UNITED STATES PATENT Qrrrcn.
EDWARD S. ELLIS, OF TRENTON, NEW JERSEY.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 122,587, dated January 9, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that'I, EDWARD S. thus, of the city of Trenton, in the county of Mercer and State of New Jersey, have invented anewv and useful Base-Ball and Cricket Clamp and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing which forms a part of these specifications, and to the letters 'of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 is a plan. Fig. 2 is a bisection. Fig. 3 represents the key or lever.
Similar letters of reference where they occur denote like parts in the drawing.
My invention consists of an adjustable clam p, having points or spikes projecting from the bottom thereof, to be applied to the sole of the boot for the purpose of preventing the wearer from slipping.
In order that others may be enabled to make use of this invention I will proceed to describe the same. a
, A is a metallic plate, having the adjustable plates 6 a, which are provided with. the slots b b secured thereto by the screws B B. To the plate A is likewise attached the sliding plate (3, having the slot 0, so that it canbe loosened or tightened by means of the screw D. When the clamp is placed on the boot the teeth 0 e e seize the edges of the sole and the whole is securely fastened by means of the key or lever G, which has, at one end, a double cam, and is provided with the hole f, into which fits the pillar H in plate 0. Upon turning the key or lever the cam Works upon the pillar I in plate A, and moves the sliding plate 0 inward, thereby forcing the teeth 6 c 6 into the edges of the sole, the points or spikes K K K preventing the wedge from slipping.
By this invention clamps are fastened to the boots of base-ball and cricket players more securely, in a shorter time, and can be removed more easily than by any other invention now in use.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is V 1. In combination with the curved plate A the spiked and hooked plates (0 a 0, provided with slots and secured thereto by means of screws B B D, as shown and described.
2. The plate A and slotted plate (3, provided, respectively, with pillars I H, and arranged as specified, whereby the key G may be applied for adjusting the same, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
EDWARD S. ELLIS.
