CURTAIN-ANCIIORING DEVICE.
Application filed January 28, 1916.
To @ZZ fio/tom t 01mg/ concer/n Be it known that l, Zaoii'ixnr E. Rossum, a citizen of the United States, residing at blank Rapids, in the county of Benton and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain- Anchoring Devices; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others` skilled in the art to which -it appertains to inake and use the same.
My invention relates to rolling curtains or shades, such as woven slat porch curtains which are easily raised and lowered by means of a cord that encircles the lower portion thereof, and the invention has for its object to provide a simple and e'llicient anchoring device for holding down the lower portions of the c rtains or shades, so that they cannot flap around even under wind pressure. To the above ends, generally stated, the invention consists of the novel devices and combinations of devices hereinafter described and defined in the claims.
ln the accompanying drawings which illustrate the invention, like characters indicate like parts throughout the several views.
Referring to the drawings:
Figure 1 is a view in elevation showing two porch curtains of the character above indicated and showing my improved anchoring device applied thereto; and
Fig. 2 is a section taken on the line 032 m2 of Fig. 17 some parts being broken away, and showing the parts on a larger scale than in Fig. 1.
rllhe numeral 1 indicates the framework in the opening of a porch and the numeral 2 indicates woven slat curtains anchored to the top of the said opening, as shown, by means of a clamping bar 3 and cooperating fastening device, not shown. The lower portions of these curtains are adapted to be independently lowered to independently adjust the curtain, by means of the customary adjusting cords 4, which cords are arranged in pairs for each curtain and anchored at their upper ends. The said cords 4: are then brought under the lower rolled portions of the respective curtains and are passed upward over suitable anchor guides, such as sleeve 5 in yokes 6 attached to the fixed bar 3, by means of screw eyes 7, or the like.
Specication of Letters Patent,
Patented May S, 1.937.
Serial 1\To. 74,776.
This is customary, the loose ends of the curtain lifting and adjusting cords t may be fastened to cleats 8 on the sides of the porch opening l, or elsewhere.
ln the application of niy improved anchoring device, rings 9 are hung on the lower looped portions of the cords et just below the rolled lower portions of the curtains, and anchoring cords 10 are applied to the said rings. ln the arrangement illustrated, the said anchoring cord 10, at one end, is secured to the left hand ring i), is passed downward through un anchored guide ring 11, thence upward through another anchor guide ring 12, thence upward through the second ring 9, thence downward and again through the anchor guide ring 12 and through another anchor guide ring 18, thence upward through the left hand guide ring 9 of the second curtain, thence again downward and through the said anchor giiide ring 13, thence upward through a fourth anchoiguide ring 14 and through the right hand guide ring 9 of the said second curtain, thence downward and again through the said anchor guide ring 14e, and from thence to an anchoring cleat 15, or other suitable fastening device. By this arrangement, as is evident, regardless of the different adjustments of the two curtains, the lower edges of the said curtain may be drawn tightly down and securely held, by the single anchoring cord 10. 0f course, this arrangement of the anchoring cord may be used independently on different curtains, and on the other hand, it may be extended to a large number of curtains, so that, for example, all of the curtains of a porch may be anchored by a single anchoring cord. This arrangement is not only extremely simple and highly ellicient7 but affords a device that may be very quickly and easily operated and which, furthermore, is of very small cost.
llVhat I claim is:
1. The combination with a suspended curtain and a pair of adjusting cords embracing the lower portion thereof for rolling the same and holding the curtain in different adjustments, and an anchoring cord passed alternately through guides on the lower portions of said adjusting cords and through anchor guides located below the curtain.
2. IThe combination with a suspended curtain and a pair of ad j listing cords embracing the lower portion thereof for rolling the saine and holding the cui-tuin in ,diil'erent nel! justinents, of guide rings on the lowerinost portions of said adjusting Cords, and an anchoring oord p21 ssed alternately through Said guide rings and through anchored guides located below the Same.
ZACHARY E. RUSSELL.
lllitnesses R. S. NnrLs, LIZZIE VoL-KMANN.
