' To all 'whom it may concern.'
portingutrack 5 is tubular in form and dows and the like and the objects of the in-v vention are to .provide a. device of this character which will be simple, strong and inexpensive and in which the parts Will all be roperly protected.
nother important obj-ect is to reduce friction to a minimum and yto insure the guiding of the sliding closure in its true path. l
Briefly the invention .comprises a track havingspaced supporting rails separated by a slot, two sets of grooved rollers riding on s aid rails, a su porting-head having rails riding on top o said grooved rollers and a retainer or spacer4 for the rollers arched over the top of the supporting head and having dependent portions carrying journals for the rollers.
VIn the accompanying drawing I have illustrated my invention embodied in practical and preferred forms but I would have it understood that changes and modifications may be made without departing from the true spirit and scope of the invention.
In said drawing: l Figure 1, is a. broken front elevation of the invention as applied to the support. of a sliding door.
Fig. 2, is an enlarged cross sectional viewof the same taken substantially on the plane of the line 2--2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3, is a similar view of a slightly modified form of the invention.
In the embodiment illustrated the supopen at the ttom to provide a slot 6, the' material at opposite edges of said slot being turned up and rolled over to provide the upstanding rails 7. This hollow track is shown rectangular in shape inthe iirst form illustrated and is shown supported by 'suitable brackets 8.
Traveling on each one of the rails 7 is a seriesof grooved rollers ..9 and these rollers in turn serve to carry an elongated sup orting head 10 having dependent rails 11 ring on top of the rollers and disposed opposite the upstanding rails 7 on the track.
In the lirst form illustrated the elongated supporting head is made up of two'angular sheet metal Vplates secured back-to-b'ack and the dependent rails are provided by rolling over the edges of said plates after the manner of the 'track rails 7.
The grooved supporting rollers are held in proper spaced relation by a retainer or spacer having a portion 12 archedl over the tops of the rollers and the supporting head and having dependent side portions 13 extending down over the sides of the rollers.
This spacer, which may be made of rela-4 tively light sheet metal thus acts in the nature of a housing for'the rollers and supporting head and it servesvalso to carry thel spindles or bearing 14.- for'the rollers. These spindles may simply be in the form of horizontally disposed studs secured in spaced The second form shown is similar to the first except that in this case the tubular track 5l is shown as substantially circular in shape and the supporting member 10 is shown as made from a single bar instead of built up of two bars or plates as in the first form.
It will be apparent from the foregoing that my inventionprovides a door su porting carriage which travels freely/'an with practically no friction and it will be apparent furthermore that the construction preventsside sway of the. door and maintains it in a true path. The construction also has the advantage that allV the parts are properly housed land protected against extending over and housing the tops of said` rollers and having dependent side portions extending down over the outer sides of the rollers, a plurality of inwardly projecting horizontally disposed pivot pins carried by each of said dependent portions of the arched spacing member on which said grooved rollers are rotatably engaged and a supporting member having an elongated head portion disposed Within the arched portion of the spacing member and provided with de endent rails at the opposite sides thereof gearing on top of the grooved rollers and having a dependent supporting portion extending below said head portion down between the two sets of rollers and through the slot between the supporting rails.
