To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, LOUIS Tnnzacnr, a subject of the King of Italy, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved CombinationPliers, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

This inventionrelates to pliers and has for an object the provision of an improved arrangement whereby certain parts are so combined as to assist in performing several functions in order that the pliers may be used for a large number of difi'erent purposes.

Another object in view is the provision of a pliers having jaws of such a shape as to be used as a hammer, as a pinching structure, as pliers and as pressing means for garments.

A. still further object in view is to provide a pair of pliers in which the handles are formed with tool structures and the jaws are arranged to receive a cutting member, the jaws including a spur whereby the combined structure may be used as a can opener.

Referring to the accompanying drawing by numerals, l and 2 indicate the handles of the pliers, handle 1 being beveled at the end for producing a screw driver structure 3 and the end or handle 2 being bifurcated for producing a tack or nail puller 4. The handles 1 and 2 are pivotally connected together at 5 and are formed so that their ends merge into clamping members 6 and 7 which are formed with enlargements 8 and 9 at one end so that a hammer structure is the result when the members 6 and 7 are together. At the opposite end of the enlargements 8 and 9 reduced extensions 10 and 11 are produced which act as pincers.

dle and is designed to extend into a can, as shown in Fig. 2, when the device is used as a can opener. l Vhen used for this purpose a cutting member 13 is clamped between the jaws or members 6 and 7, said cutting member comprising a body 14 having a turned-down end 15 and a turneddown knife 16, said knife being designed to cut the can. By this construction and arrangement it will be evident that the device may cut the end out of any size can within the limits of the length of the jaws. 1f the can is of greater diameter than the length of the jaws 6 and 7 part of the top may be cut therefrom.

As shown in Fi 4 the pliers are arranged to act as pressing means for creating or reproducing a crease in garments of different kinds, as for instance, in mens trousers. When used for this purpose a fabric or other covering 17 is passed longi tudinally around the jaw 6 and the ends forced over the spur 12 which holds the covering member in place. A covering member 18 is passed longitudinally around the jaw 7 and is held in place by a suitable resilient clip 19. After these parts have been arranged in position the jaws are caused to pinch the garment and thereby press a crease. It is evident that if desired the jaws could be heated, though ordinarily this is not done, as the intention is merely to refresh creases already in a garment rather than create new creases, though both operations may be performed.

In addition to this use and those above specified that part of the handles 1 and 2 between the pivotal end 5 and the jaws is arranged with roughened or corrugated sections 20 and 21 which preferably are formed in the arc of circle so as to readily grasp a round article, as for instance, a pipe. A

spring 22 is connected with the handles and tends to normally hold the same separated, as shown in Fig. 1.

It will be noted that the various parts are connected up or formed integral with the two handles, which handles are pivotally connected together, the various parts operating without adjustment except the cutter 13 shown in Fig. Band the covering members 17 and 18 used in pressing an article. When the device is to be used as a screw driver the parts are allowed to assume the position shown in Fi 1 and when used as a hammer the jaws are brought together so that the enlargements S and 9 may properly act. hen acting a pincers they act in the usual manner and the end members 10 and 11 may act properly as pliers by a proper manipulation of the handles 1 and 2. In fact, all of the parts act by the manipulation of the handles 1 and 2.

What I claim is:

A pair of pliers of the character described, comprising a pair of handles pivotally connected together, a jaw arranged on each handle extending laterally therefrom Copies of this patent may be obtained for whereby a T-shaped structure is produced, each of said jaws having a flat face, said flat faces being positioned to come in contact when the jaws are closed, and each of said jaws being also provided with a rounded thickened portion on the back at each end and a projection at one end, the rounded thickened portions and one end of the jaws acting as a hammer when the jaws are together and the projections acting as pliers.
