ROBERT JOSEPH LEWERS, OF NEWPORT NEWS, VIRGINIA.
TOILET-DISINFECTOR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 3, 1917.
Application filed August 21, 1916. Serial No. 116,073.
infectors, and has for its principal object to provide a simple, efiicient and economical means for supplying an antiseptic or deodorant to the bowl of a water-closet.
A further object consists in forming and arranging the device so that it may be concealed from view, yet readily detachable at any time for washing the device itself or washing the seat.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts more fully described in'the following specification, illustrated in the accompanyingdrawings and pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a plan view of the closet seat showing the present invention applied thereto.
Fig. 2 is a section taken on line 2-2 of Fig. 1, looking in the direction of the arrow.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged plan view of the ap pliance detached.
Fig. 4 is a section taken on line 33 of Fig. 3.
Fig. 5 is an end view.
Fig. 6 is an enlarged plan view of a modification showing the pad secured to the pan by a rod.
Fig. 7 is a cross section on line 4-4 of Fig. 6.
Referring to the drawing, and particularly to Fig. 1, a water-closet seat is shown at 1, hinged at its rear edge as at 2 to the framework 3. The disinfecting device which forms the subject matter of this application is secured to the underside of the closet seat and appears in this View in dotted lines.
The appliance itself consists of ametal pan 4, curved so as to conform with the contour of the rear portion of the seat 1 and is detachably secured to the underside thereof by means of slots 5 formed in the horizontal part of the upturned ends of pan 4, and screws or like attaching means on the underside of the seat 1. The pan 4 is constructed so as to form a channel 6 centrally of the bottom, having walls or sides diverging upwardly and outwardly to form a seat for the disinfecting pad or wick 7. The pad or wick may be of any absorbent material and it is securedly held in place by means of pins 8, arranged centrally of the channel 6 and the pan 4. The pan 4 has upturned ends 9, having horizontal extensions 10 in which the slots 5 are formed. Near the bottom of the ends 9 and communicating with the channel 6 are holes 11 for admitting air into the channel to cause a rapid evaporation of the disinfectant which is applied to the pad or wick. The disinfectant or deordorant, which is in liquid form, may be applied to the pad or wick without removing the pan from the seat.
Referring to Figs. 6 and 7, in this form the pan 4 is shown with an enlarged central channel 12, to receive liquid disinfectant so that it may be fed continuously to the absorbent pad 13 by means of short wicks 14, depending from the pad 13 into the central channel. The pan 4 is provided with horizontal shoulders 15 up n which the absorbent pad rests. The absorbent pad 13 is socurely held in position on the shoulders 15 by means of rods 16 extending transversely of the pan 4. The air inlet ports may be used as filling openings, if it is so desired.
The pan is readily removable from the seat at all times for cleaning the pan or washing the underside of the seat and the slots are so formed that the pan will not drop off when the seat is raised.
Having thus described my invention what I claim is 1. The combination with a water-closet having a seat movable in relation to the bowl, of a disinfecting device comprising an open pan connected to the underside of said seat, disinfectant absorbent means held within the pan.
2. A disinfecting device adapted to be removably secured to the underside of a watercloset seat comprising a pan having a channel and absorbent material supported above the channel.
3. A disinfecting device adapted to be removably secured to the underside of a waterabsorbent material.
' 4. A disinfecting device adapted to be detachably secured to the underside of a Watercloset seat comprising a curved pan having upturned ends, said ends having open slotted portions for engaging supportingmeans in said Water-closet seat.
5. A disinfecting device adapted to be detachably secured to the underside of a Water-closet seat comprising a pan having a central depression and horizontal shoulders and an absorbent pad supported Within said an. p 6. A disinfecting device adapted to be detachably secured to the underside of a Watercloset seat comprising an open pan and an absorbent pad, with means for retaining said pad in the pan.
In testimony whereof, I afiix my signature.
ROBERT JOSEPH LEWERS.
