Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed May 9, 1916. Serial No. 96,316.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CARLTON N. OennN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Houston, in the county of Harris and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Liquid-Vending Machines, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in a liquid vending machine.
The object of the invention is to provide a machine of the character described for the urpose of dispensing liquid drinks and embodies a mechanism provided. to receive a coin and which will deliver a' quantity of liquid corresponding of the coin deposited.
With the above and other objects in view the invention has particular relation to certain novel features of construction, opera tion and arrangement of parts, an example of which is given in this specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the machine,

Referring now more particularly to the drawings, the numeral 1 indicates the cabi net inclosing the operative mechanism. This cabinet is divided into upper and lower compartments by means of the transverse partition 2. This partition supports a circular platform 3 whereon is mounted a rotatable drum 4, interposed between which and the 'latform are suitable anti-friction bearings.

This container has a discharge spout 19 whose free end terminates below the container 18 and is arranged to also discharge in theglass 14 simultaneously with the discharge of the syrup therein so that the syrup and water will be thoroughly mixed in the glass. Controlling the pipe 17 immediately underneath the container 18, is the valve 20 and controlling the discharge spout 19 above said container is the valve 21. These valves are manipulated through a suitable mechanism as 22, so that when the former is open the latter will be There is suflicient pressure in the tank 18 to start the flow of fluid when the valve 20 is closed and valve 21 opened and when the flow is once started the spout 19 assisted by the pressure, will act as a siphon to empty the container.

The shaft 23 also has an arm 26 fixed thereto whose free end is enlarged and turned at .a right angle to the arm forming the platform 27, which has the vertical slot 28 therethrough. A coin chute 29 is provided which is secured to one side of the cabinet and whose outer end has a slot to receive the coin. This chute declines inwardly and .its inner end depends over the platform 27, said platform receiving the coin therefrom. .Cut through the side of the cabinet underneath the coin chute is tending through this slot is a rod 3.1, whose a vertical slot 30 and ex-- outer end is formed into a handle 32. This rod is seated upon a coil spring 33 and is thereby held in elevated position above the platform 27. When -the same is pulled downwardly, its inner end will pass through the slot 28, without afiecting the mechanism of the machine. If a coin is deposited it will pass through the chute 29 and on to the platform 27 and close said slot 28. When the handle 32 is then pulled downwardly the inner end of the rod 31 will engage against the coin and cause the arm 26 to swing around into the position shown in dotted lines in Fig. 6, said rod gradually moving towar the edge of the platform and finally passing by the same, as illustrated in Fig. 6. uring this movement the rod will displace the coin from the platform and it will drop into a suitable coin receptacle (not shown). As the arm 26 is forced around, the shaft 23 will be caused to turn, operating through the arm 25 to close the valve 20 and open the valve 21 and the liquid which has been held under pressure in the container 18, will escape through the discharge spout 19 into the glass 14:. At the same time the free end of the arm 24 will force the push rod 12, alined thereunder, downwardly, forcing a quantity of syrup through the corresponding discharge spout 13 into the glass. When the handle 32 is released, itwill be elevated by the spring 33 to its original position and the arms 24, 25 and 26- will also be elevated through the pull springs 34, 34, which are attached to the respective arms 24 and 26 at one end and'to the upper part of the cabinet at their other. The front part of the cabinet is provided with a dial corresponding to the different compartments of the drum L and the crank may be turned, bringing the pointer to any desired indicating character on the dial, which will indicate that the'discharge spout of the corresponding compartment of the drum 4 is alined over the glass 14 and arranged to discharge therein. The
front part of the cabinet is provided. with a container 35 having a covering with a trap door 36. This container is provided to receive drinking cups which are discarded as soon as .used as well as to receive the waste fluid which is discharged therein through the overflow pipe 37.
-What I claim is:
1. A device of the character describedineluding a container, an inlet pipe leading thereto and a discharge pipe leading therefrom, a valve controlling each of said pipes, a valve actuating mechanism arranged to -open one of saidvalves and simultaneously close the other, in combination'with a rofixed thereto,
' connection with the valve tatable drum separated into compartments provided to contain liquids and means for discharging said liquids from said respective compartments, said container and said compartments discharging at a common point.
2. A device of the character described including a container, a discharge spout leading therefrom, a valve controlling said spout, a rotatable drum formed into separate compartments, for containing liquids, a pump for each compartment provided to force the liquid contained therein therefrom and a manual mechanism arranged to open said valve and to simultaneously manipulate the corresponding pump.

In a device of the character described, a container having a plurality of compartments fixed relative to each other, said container being bodily rotatable, a mechanism carried by each compartment for discharging the contents thereof therefrom, means for actuating said mechanism, and a container having a discharge pipe, said container and-said compartments discharging at a common oint. 85 v 4. In a device of the character described, a drum having a plurality of compartments, mechanism carried by each compartment for discharging fluid therefrom, means for manually actuating said mechanism, means for rotating said drum, a container, and inlet and outlet valves therefor in operative connection with and controlled by said actuating mechanism.
