To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ANNA M. LIVERSON, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Seattle, in the county of King and State of Washington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sanitary Invalid-Supports, of which the following is a full, true, and exact specification.

My invention relates to improvements i sanitary invalid supports and has for its principal object to provide a convenient sani tary and novel support for invalids who are required to keep a limb or other part of the body in an elevated position. A further object is to provide adjustable means for suspending my device from the invalids bed or the like. As is well known in many cases of illness it is necessary to support the patient in a sitting position with one or more limbs elevated and it is usual in hospitals to use a special bed for such patients or to support them with pillows, supports made from sheets and the like emergency contrivances. My device obviates the necessity of a special bed and provides an ever ready and suitable support which may be used against the pa tients back, under the stomach, or under any limb or limbs or the buttocks.

Further, my device has been found in actual practice to obviate much of a nurses work in caring for a patient and to make the patient more comfortable.

Other objects will appear as my invention is more fully explained in the following specification, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claims.

Figure 1 is an elevation of my device shown attached to the head of a bed. Fig. 2 is an enlarged sectional elevation of a frag ment of my support. Fig. 3 is a similar cross sectional view. Fig. 1 is a similar View to Fig. 2 of an alternate form of my support. Fig. is an enlarged fragmentary view of my supporting straps.

Referring more particularly to the drawings, Figs. 1, 3, 4 and 5, numeral 1 indicates a supporting cylinder having closed ends 2 to which swivel eyes 3 are attached. Eyes 3 are preferably provided with links 1. On the outside of cylinder 1, a padding 5 is wrapped and a removable sanitary case 6 is applied outside of said padding. My device is supported by means of adjustable straps 7 having snaps 8 at either end and are provided with sewed-in links 9 along their length. The links 9 are preferably held in place by strips 10 which pass through them and are sewed to the straps 7. In supporting the cylinder 1 and its padding, etc, one end of each strap 7 is snapped onto links a and the other endis passed over a bedstead head 11 or the like and after the support is adjusted to the patient, the other ends of the straps are snapped into the nearest link 9. The position of the device is adjust ed by selecting the proper link 9.

Referring to Fig. i, a spool 12 having flanged ends 13 is used in place of cylinder 1 and is provided with swivel eyebolt 3 as in Fig. 2. A sanitary and removable rubber casing 14 is applied to the spool 12 and an outer linen envelop 15 may be used also if desired. The form of device shown in Fig. 4 can be sterilized by boiling if neces sary as there is nothing which would be injured by the sterilization.

While I have shown aparticular form of embodiment of my invention, I am aware that many minor changes therein will readily suggest themselves to others skilled in the art without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention, and I therefore desire to avoid being limited to the exact form shown and described except as pointed out in the appended claims.

Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is

1. In a device of the class described, the combination of a cylindrical supporting spool having flanged ends and swivel eyebolts in either end and adjustable supporting straps attachable to said eyebolts, sani tary padding including a rubber casing which fits the spool tightly between the flanges, and a linen envelop outside the casing, whereby a soft and pliablesanitary supporting surface is provided for the patients body.

2. Ina device of the class described, the combination of a rollably suspended hollow cylindrical spool with flanged ends, a cylindrical rubber casing which fits the spool tightly between the flanges and which is removable, and an endless linen sanitary covering which fits the casing tightly all around, whereby a soft and sanitary rest is provided.
