To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, WILLIAM R. CHRISTIE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Game, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

This invention relates to games and has for an object the provision of an improved projecting device which may be readily held at any place and caused to strike a ball or other object for projecting the same.

Another object of the invention is to provide a projecting device arranged substantially in the shape of a cone but provided with a removable bar or cue limited in its movement but adapted to strike an article within said movement with different degrees of force according to certain adjustments of the parts.

In the accompanying drawings the figure is a longitudinal vertical section through a projecting device embodying the invention.

Referring to the accompanying drawing by numerals, 15 indicates a bar or one adapted to strike a ball or other object for projecting-the same, said one being provided with a tip 16. Bar 15 is formed with a plurality of annular grooves 17, said grooves being arranged at different distances apart so that the one may be caused to force a ball or other object at high speed or at low speed, as desired. The annular grooves 17 near the rear end are preferably arranged close together and are gradually spaced farther and farther apart toward the front end. The extreme rear of the bar 15 is provided with a notch 18 for receiving an elastic member 19, which elastic member is passed over partof the barrel 20 of the stock 21. stock 21 merges into or is formed integrally with barrel 20, which barrel guides the cue bar 15, while the stock contains a catch and trigger mechanism, the catch comprising a bifurcated pivotally mounted member 22 which is adapted to receive, in the bifurcation thereof, the end of spring 23 and the end of a pivotally mounted trigger 24,

Spring 23 is rigidly secured to the stock 21 and acts for holding the catch 22 in opera- The tive position so that only part thereof will be positioned in one of the notches 17 and thereby prevent the resilient member 19 from forcing the bar 15 forwardly. When the parts are arranged as shown in the drawing bar 15 will give a comparatively light blow, whereas if the bar was pushed back until the catch was in engagement with the notch a comparatively hard blow would be given. A pin 25 is provided adjacent the rear of the bar 15 so as to prevent the shooting of the bar out of the barrel 20 or allowing a complete forward movement of the bar so as to give the proper blow to any of the balls 26.

WVhat I claim is:

1. In a projecting device of the character described, a barrel, a bar loosely mounted in said barrel. and extending beyond the ends thereof, said bar having notches therein, a-

thereof, said gripping portion being hollow, a substantially U-shaped catch pivotally mounted in said gripping portion arranged so that one arm of the U will engage the notches in said bar, a trigger engaging the opposite arm of said U, a spring engaging the first mentioned arm of the U for holding the trigger in a given position, and resilient means acting on said bar for forc ing the same longitudinally of said barrel.

2. In a projecting device of the character described, a barrel, a bar loosely mounted in said barrel, said bar being formed with notches, resilient means for causing said bar to move longitudinally of said barrel, a hollow casing or grip connected with said barrel substantially midway between the ends thereof, and trigger mechanism arranged in said casing or grip arranged to engage said bar in said notches for normally preventing movement of said bar.
