FABRIC-BOLT BOARD.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 6, 191 '7.
Application filed April 15, 1915, Serial No. 21,537. Renewed January 24, 1917. Serial No. 144,310.
To all whom it mail concern.
Be it known that I, CLIFTON K. BAU- MANN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Fabric-Bolt Board, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
Among the principal objects Which the present invention has in view are: to provide a board of the character mentioned having relatively rigid permanent side edges and relatively fragile removable sides for preventing the collapsing of fabric Wound on said board; and to reduce the cost of construction and lighten the Weight of said board.
Drawings.
on the line 5-5 in Fig. 4.
Description.
As seen in the drawings, the board is provided at each end with a box 10. Each box has sides 11. The sides 11 are each stamped to form a raised portion and a rabbet recess 12 adjacent the side edges and the rear edge of each box. The boxes are faced With a strip having rounded form ends 13 and elongated openings. The openings 19 referred to are each surrounded on three sides by channels 14, said channels being exposed at one end of said openings to receive closure strips 20. The closure strips are imprinted as desired.
The boxes 10 are preferably divided by a partition 15 to form tWo compartments. It Will be understood that this construction may be varied by using any suitable number of partitions to divide the box into a desired number of compartments.
The rabbet recesses 12 at the side edges of the boxes 10 are provided to receive the folded end edges of half round rails 16.
' recesses 12 to form a The rails 16 are formed to the full length of the board constructed in'accordance' With the present invention, and shaped to the ends 13 of the facing strips of the boxes 10.
Intermediate the sections Where the rails 16 rest upon the recesses 12 of the boxes 10, said rails are provided With rabbeted edges 17, Which correspond With the recesses 12. The rabbeted edges 17 cooperate With the els 18.
It is preferred that the boxes 10 and the rails 16 shouldbe constructed from metal, and that the panels 18 should be constructed from cardboard. The object of the composite construction is two-fold, to Wit, to lighten the completed board, and to reduce the cost thereof. By the arrangement shown and described, it is obvious that the rails 16 may be constructed from arelatively cheap grade of material, and the boxes 10, being made from relatively small sheets, may be completed at a corresponding diminution in price.
The panelslS may be held in the rabbeted edges 17 and recesses 12 by any suitable means, that employed by me being to attach the boards to the recesses and edges with any suitable adhesive. The panels 18 may be utilized for imparting directions or information desired by the trade in Which the board is employed. Also, it is obvious that the panels 18 may be from time to time reneWed.
