BASKET-BALL GOAL.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 6, 1917.
Application filed May 15, 1916. Serial No. 97,590.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY C. OHLsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Columbus, in the countyof Franklin and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in BaskebBall Goals, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in basket ball goal which shall provide a portable goal of knockdown construction which is readily assembled and disassembled and secured in place on the wall or other structure upon which it is placed for use; also my improved goal complies strictly with the requirements prescribed by the rules governing the game of basket ball, and is so made that it has all the rigidity and strength necessary to stand the stress of the most vigorous game.
In the drawings which are hereto attached and made part of thisspecification Figure 1 is a top view of the goal; Fig. 2 is a side view, and Fig. 3 is a view from the front.
Referring to the drawings, 1 is the ring or basket provided with the threaded sockets or protuberances 1, 1 1, for the reception of the supporting bar or member 4: and the bracing or supporting bars 3 and 3 the bracket member 2 is provided with the threaded sockets or protuberances 2 2, 2, for the reception of the other ends of the bars or members 3, 3*, and 4. All of these bars are threaded both right and left which makes the assembling and disassembling very quickly and effectively done.
The bracket 2 is provided with appropriate openings 5, 5 and 5*, for the reception of screw or nail or bolt heads upon which the goal is suspended for use; the weight of the structure is suflicient to maintain it securely in position on the supporting screw heads during the progress of the game. To disassemble the bars 3, 3 and 4: are unscrewed, which frees the ring or basket and the bracket, and the parts may be readily packed for removal. This goal may be carried by a traveling team, and thus an oflicial goal may always be provided for the contests.
I Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Washington, D. 0.
My invention therefore provides a goalwhich is simple in its construction, strong and durable, easily and quickly assembled and positioned for use, and readily disaswhich complies with all the requirements of the official rules governing the game.
It should be stated that said rules require that the upper face of the basket shall be in a horizontal plane, no part of the same in place for the game, shall be rigid and unyielding in all directions. My construction is in strict compliance therewith.
What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is .55 sembled and packed for shipment, and
' shall project thereabove, and the goal when i l. A basket ball goal of knockdown vconbasket member adapted to be screwed into said protuberances, whereby a rigid structure is provided adapted for ready assembling and disassembling.
2. A basket ball goal of knockdown construction comprising a ring or basket member having its upper edge in a horizontal plane, a bracket member adapted to be detachably secured to a wall or other support- 7 ing body, and rigid supporting members adapted to be removably secured at one end to said bracket member and at the other end to said ring or basket member below the plane of the upper edge of said ring, whereby a rigid structure is ready disassembling.
provided adapted for In testimony whereof I afliX my signature.
