IMPROVEMENT IN KNUCKLE-PROTECTORS FOR WASHING CLOTHES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 121,498, dated December 5, 1871.
-a new and useful Improvement for the Protection of the Knuckles while in the act of Washing Clothes.
The object of my invention is to provide a simple shield or protector for the knuckles, so formed that it can be easily attached to the hand and used while washing clothes on a wash-board or otherwise.
Figure 1 represents the knuckle-protector, showing the handle of the same. Fig. 2 represents a section of the knuckle-protector with cushion attached. Fig.3representsthe face of the knuckleprotector, and shows a series of small convex surfaces raised on the same.
The protector should be made of metallic or other suitable material, so shaped as to shield the knuckles, and with a handle so formed as to be easily attached to or detached from the fingers. A represents the handle, which, when grasped, secures the protector to the fingers. The dotted line B B represents the cushion, made of felt or other soft material, fastened to and covering the inside surface of the protector, thus preventing the knuckles from coming in contact with the metal. 0 represents the face of the protector with its uneven surface so formed as to allow a free movement of the hand while in the act of rubbing clothes on a board or otherwise.
I claim as my invention- The knuckle protector for use in washing clothes, as herein described, with its uneven surface 0 as applied to the shield, the peculiarlyshaped handle A by which the shield is secured to the fingers, and the attachment of the cushion B which protects the knuckles from contact with the metal, the whole being constructed and arranged to operate in the manner and for the purpose specified.
