NON-REFILLABLE BOTTLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patentes Janse, ieri'.
Application filed August 1, 1916. Serial No. 112,568.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY KRAUT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sum-- mit, in the county of Union and State of New Jersey, have invented new and useful lmprovements in Non-Refillable Bottles, of which the following is a specification.
rl`his invention is an improved non-refillable bottle, the object of the invention being to provide improved means for arrangement in the neck of a bottle and by means of which the bottle is elfectually prevented from being relled.
rlhe invention consists in the features of construction, combination, and arrangement of devices, hereinafter fully described and claimed.
ln the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a sectional view through the neck of a bottle provided with non-refillable means constructed and arranged in accordance with my invention and showing the valve in closed position in full lines and in open position in dotted lines. Figs. 2 and 3 are transverse sectional views respectively on the lines 2-2 and 3-3 of Fig. 1.
The bottle 1 may be made of any suitable size and shape and may be made of any suitable material, but is preferably made of glass and in accordance with my invention is provided with a neck portion 2, the outer end of which is bent at right angles as at 3 to provide mouth 4: for the reception of a suitable cork or stopper 5. A washer or gasket 6, of cork or other suitable material is arranged between the neck portion 7 of the bottle and the neck portion 2. The ap'- proxiinate ends of the neck portions 2 and T are provided with screw threads which are engaged by a coupling sleeve 8 which serves to firmly secure the neck portion 2 to the bottle. When assembling the parts, liquid cement or other suitable material is placed on the outer rim of the washer 6 to cement the parts together. rlhe ends of the coupling sleeve 8 are pressed into annular grooves 9, 10 with which the parts 7 and 2 of the neck are respectively provided.
The neck portion 2 has a cylindrical bore or chamber' 11. A cylindrical cage l2 is itted snugly in the chamber of the neck and has a base flange 13 which is engaged in an annular groove 14 and said base ange has a radially projecting lug 15 which engages in a notch 16 at the base of the neck portion 2. Thereby the cage is secured against turning in the bottle neck. The base of the cage has a central opening 17. One side of the cage has a semi-annular opening 18 which is on the side of the cage which is opposite the bent portion 3 of the bottle mouth. Openings 19 are at the outer end of the cage at the side opening opposite the opening 18. The outer end of the cage is closed as at 2G and is provided with openings 21 on the same side as the opening 18. Cross wings 22, project from the outer end of the cage and fit in a conical portion of the bottle neck. These cross wings guard the openings 19, 21.
A valve 23 is provided and arranged for movement in the cage 12 toward and from the opening 17. Said valve is cylindrical, closed at the lower end as at 24tand open at the outer end as at 25. The valve is provided at its lower end with radially ai'- ranged spurs 2G which bear against the wall of the bore in the neck portion 2 and two of said spurs also bear on the sides of the opening 18 in the cage. At is outer endl or upper end, the said valve 23 is also provided with a semi-annular flange 27, the diameter of which is equal to that of the cage, the ends of said flange also being slidable on the sides of the opening 18. When the valve is closed against the bottom of the cage, it closes the opening 17 and prevents the refilling of the bottle. lf an attempt is made to refill the bottle by laying it down with the curved end of the neck up, the inflow of liquid will strike the valve and close the saine against the base of the cage. The pressure of the liquid on the valve operates to close the saine before any of the liquid can pass into the bottle. The curved mouth piece enables the contents of the bottle to be more readily poured therefrom into a glass or other receptacle than an ordinary straight neck and serves to prevent spilling of the contents thereof. ln practice, the neck piece 2 and the cage and valve are preferably made of colored glass, to prevent the interior parts from being seen. Any suitable material may however, be used for making the various parts of the bottle.
Having described the invention, what is claimed is:
i bottle, a cylindrical cage in the neck of the bottle and provided in the base with an opening and provided with openings in the upper end, said cage also having a semi-annular opening in one side, and a hollow cylindrioal valve in and of less diameter than the cage, closed at its lower end and opened at its upper end, said valve being'provided With radially arranged guide spurs which bea-r against the Wall of the bore of the neck, the valve being further provided at its upper end With a semi-annular flange'the diameter of which is equal to that of the cage Copies of this patent may be obtained for ve cents each, by addressing the Commissionerlof-Patents, Washington, D. C, v Y
and the ends of which are slidably arranged on the sides of the side opening in the cage, 10 said valve being removed from the cage through the semi-annular side opening of the latter when the cage is removed from the bottles neck. Y
In testimony whereof I affix iny signature. l5
