RAZOR-BLADE HOLDER.
Specifioationbf Letters Patent.
llmatenteddan. 16, 121'?.
Application filed .Tune 13, 1916. Serial No. 103,524.
To all whom it may concern: f Be it known that l, ROBERT A'. JOHN- s'roNE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Ness City, in the 4county of Ness and State of Kansas, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Razor-Blade Holders, of which the following is a speciication.
This invention is an improvement in razors, and it has particular reference to razors of the so-called safety type.
An object of the invention is the provision of an improved holder for a detachable blade, whereinl an arm of the razor has a socket for the reception of a blade carrier and ejector removably mounted therein and of novel construction, and having a clamp ing device associated therewith for retaining the blade in adjusted position.
Another object is to provide a device of this character which is simple in construction, easy to manufacture, and wherein the blade is readily and ouickly removable when it is desired to replace the same.
The inventive idea involved is capable of receiving a variety of,mechanical expressions, one of which for the purpose of illustrating the invention, is shown inthe accompanying drawing wherein- Figure 1 is a side elevation of the razor constructed in accordance with the invention. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a transverse section on the line 3--3 of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a similar section on the line 4-4 of Fig. 1. Fig. 5 is a detail perspective view of the parts separated.
The invention is illustrated in connection with a razor of the pivoted handle type, but it is of course understood that the same can be used in connection with any other type of razor involving a detachable blade construction.
There is illustrated in the accompanying drawing what is now believed to be a preferred form ofthe invention, wherein the handle 10 is pivoted at 11 to the arm 12, which is preferably made of metal bent upon itself as indicated, to provide a socket 13 extending substantially the length thereof. At the outer end of the arm 12 the same is provided with oppositely disposed jaws or blade guides 14, for. receiving the razor blade 15 therebetween. These jaws are preferably formed integral with the arm 12, and are spaced a less distance apart than the width of thesocket 13, so that the inner surfaces of said'jaws will tightly engage the blade 15 when the same is adjusted Iin position.
` The blade 15 is preferably provided along its inner longitudinal edge with a filling piece 16 to yprovide an enlarged portion adapted to fit snugly in the socket 13 of the arm 12. A carrying and ejecting device 17 is associated with the blade 15 and is preferably in the form of an elongated bar cut away at one end to provide a reduced extension 18 substantially equal in length to that of the blade 15 andhaving at its reduced extremity a transverse lange stop 19 between which and the shoulder formed by the reduced portion, the blade 15 is adapted to fit. When adjusting the razor blade in position, the enlarged end Yof the carrying andejectingdevice 17. is first inserted into the socket 13, then moved longitudinally thereof, until the inner end of the razor blade also is in alinementrwith the socket 13, whereupon the carrying device and'blade may be further pushed inwardly into said socket until the inner end of the device V1"( contacts the inner end of the'said socket. Whenin this position the flange stop 19 will engage the outer extremity of the arm 12, and in order to facilitate theremoval ofthe blade, the said arm is notched as indicated at 20, in order that ,the operator may insert a fingernail into engagementl with the end of the said stop flange 19 and thus withdraw the carrying and ejecting device from the socket 13.
In order to securely retain the blade 15 in its adjusted position, there is provided a clamping plate 21 having at each end thereof a guide 22 between which and the body of said plate is kreceived the jaws or bladeguide 14. @ne longitudinal edge of the clampingplate 21 is provided with the usual guard iingerso23, while the other edge thereof is provided with an extension 24 carrying a lug 25 adjacent its outer end, which is adapted to engage either one of the openings 26 formed in the arm 12 intermediate the ends of the jaws 14. This extension 24 is preferably resilient, and when the clamping plate is in position the lug 25 will snap into the opening 26, and thus retain the clamping plate in position.
What is claimed is:
V1. A razor including an arm having parallel'blade engagingk jaws at one end, and
Ya Socket extending Ylongitudinally thereof,Y
" a' blade mounted between said jaws, and a l'carryingV vand eje'cting device for said bladeV vincluding a'fiatfelongated member having AVoneofits edges'reduced to provide'a recess of'ra'V length substantially kequal to that of j said: blade f wherebyV to receive a portionv Y thereof,V said device being inserted intorsaid V'socket and'havingits Vredueedjoortion in- VVeind 0f `Said terposed between theY inner longitudinal jaws andthe inner edge of the j bladeVY Y Y j f 2. A razor including an arm having par- 'ellgl bladeengaeine jaws at one end and a socket'extending Vlongitudinally thereof, a
blade mounted between said jaws, andV a carrying and ejeeting device for said blade including a iiat elongated member having one of its edges reduced to provide a recess of a length substantially equal to that kof said blade whereby to receive a portion thereof, said device being inserted into said ROBERT ARTHUR J OHN STONE.
