Be it known that I, ALZAMON IRA LUCAS, a citizen of the United States, and resident of the city of Seattle, county of King, State -of Washington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Collapsible Baby-Beds, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to childrens cribs, and consists of certain improvements therein whereby a crib may be collapsed and placed in convenient condition for transportation.

'I he object of my invention is to provide a suitable type of construction of a collapsible crib, such that it may be conveniently collapsed and packed away in a case of convenient size, and that it may be taken with one when traveling and put into use or packed away as it may be needed.

The construction of my device will be hereinafter described. and the particular, features thereof, which are believed to be novel and upon which I desire to obtain a patent. will be defined by the claims.

In the accompanying vdrawings I have shown my invention constructed in accordance with the plans which are now most preferred by me.

Figure 1 is ay side elevation. of an assembled crib of this type, with a portion thereof at one end in section, to better show certain parts. Fig. 2 is an end elevation of the same erib..with portions broken away to better show the construction. Fig. 3 is a top or plan view of the same` with a portion of the bottom at one end broken away. Fig. 4 is a section on a vertical plane through the base, showing part of the legs. and the manner of attaching the same to the base. Fig. 5 shows a like section taken on a different plane, illustrating the means for attaching the legs to the base. Fig. 6 is a section on a vertical plane through a corner of the base, showing the manner of attaching the sides thereto. Fig. 7 is a section showing the manner of securing two side section s together, to prevent disengagement. Flg. 8 is a section through the base and upper end of the legs, showing a slightly modified manner of securing these parts against displacement. Fig. 9 is a plan view of the parts of the base and the legs, which are secured together. Fig. 10 is a perspective showing the case, with the parts of the crib packed therein. Fig. 11 is a section, showing the manner of securing the closing side 'of the case 1n position.

In designing the present invention, it has been the 'intention to provide a collapsible crib in which the parts may be readily assembled and disassembled, and in which. when disassembled, the parts may all be of such size that they may be packed within a case, shaped to resemble a large suit case, and one which therefore may be conveniently carried when traveling, and put into use on short notice.

The case l resembles a shallow boX, open at one side, and has a separable member or side 11, the two being provided with means for securing them together so as to close the open side of the box. In use the main section of the case serves as the bottom of the crib, and is placed in inverted position, that is with the open side down, as is clearly shown in Figs. l and 2. The bottom portion 10 of this case is provided along its two long sides with means whereby the bottom edges of the sides may be secured in place thereto. Such means as herein shown, consist of key-hole slots L12, which are adapted to receive headed pins 20, carried by the side members 2. These key-hole slots are placed with the eye toward the center of the bottom, so that when the headed pins are placed therein and moved outwardly, they are locked against removal.

The end sections 3 are not'secured at their lower edges to the bottom, although this may be done if desired. I have herein shown the end sections as provided along their vertical edges, with key-hole slots 30, and the side sections 2 with pins 20, adapted to fit therein.

To prevent the side sections from being forced inward after the parts have been assembled, I provide a catch or catches, which engage when they are in assembled positron, and hold them against accidental movement in such direction as will release the key-hole slot and pin-locking mechanism. Such a catch device is shown in Fig. 7 and consists of a pin 31 carried by a spring bar 32, and adapted to enter a hole 33 in the adjacent side section. This may be readily released by pulling the pin 31 outward, but is not liable to be accidentally released. This pin prevents sliding of the two partsupon each other and, therefore, prevents movement of the headed pins 20 to the large end of the keyhole slot.

I have provided legs forvthe crib, consisting of the leg'members proper 4, and a connecting bar 40, extending between the u pper ends of two legs, so as to hold them together in place. A bar 41 is mounted on the bottom section 10 in each end thereof,

and this bar and the upper ends of the legs,

or the bar 40 connecting said legs, are provided with complemental interlocking members, whereby when engaged the legs may be securely held. In the construction herein shown, this interlocking is secured by providing dove-tailed sockets 42 on the bar 41, and corresponding dovetailed heads 43 Lon thebar 40 of the legs. The legs may be secured in place, or removed by a movement f lengthwise of the connecting bar 40.

' When secured in place, the accidental removal or releasing of the legs may be prevented by a spring catch, such for'instance as is shown in Fig. 4. This consists of a pin 5, provided with an external head 50, and held projected by spring 51, the end of this pin entering a hole 52 in the bar 41, which is secured to the base.

In Fig.' 8 a slightly different locking means is shown, this consisting of a bar 53, which is pivoted to the lower side of the bar 41 of the base, and swings into engagement with the end of the bar 40. This swinging bar 53 is preferably a spring bar','.and is provided with a projection 54, adapted to enter a corresponding recess in the bar 41, to hold it in its locking position.

I prefer to provide the removable case cover 11 with recesses or holes 13, these being spaced so that when the coverv 11 is placed upon the fioor, the feet of legs 4 may enter these holes, and the cover 11 thereby serves to hold the feet against spreading.

Thelong sides 14 of the case are provided with spring catches 6, these having' ends 60 turnedhover and adapted to engage with the side 11, to hold it in place vwhen the case is closed. Y

A hand-le 15 may be vprovided upon one of the long sides of the case, and two handles 16 at the ends, these latter being intended to be used to move the crib lwhen it is in assembledposition, and the handle 15, to carry it when iti is packed.

Such acrib as the above may be madeof very light material, such for instance as ratan, bamboo, willow, or such materials, orV

even of fiber board or veneer. Such a crib would have but littleweight, and may be readily carried. It can be quickly set up, or taken down and packedaway, and therefore may be readily carried when traveling.V

VhatY I claim as my invention is:

1. An infants crib having a base or floor section, in the form of a shallow inverted box, and separable sides, said bottom and meeting edges of the sides being provided with interlockingk means engageable to hold these parts in assembled relation, and the sides being of asize to fit withinttheboxlike bottom when separated.

2. ,An infants crib having a base or floor Y section, in the form of a shallow inverted box, and separable sides, said bottom and meeting edges of the sides being provided with complemental key-hole slots and headed pins, and means for locking. the sides against accidental. releasing movement.-

3.
