Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 2, 1917.
Application filed. April 14, 1916. Serial No. 91,129.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE J. STINZING, a citizen of the United States, residing at Port Chester, in the county of lVestchester and State of New tain new and useful Improvements in Huckster-Wagons; and I do following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to new and useful improvements in huckster wagons, and my object is to provide compartments within the wagon body for the reception of various classes of vegetables, fruits, and the like.
A further object is to so construct the compartments that the contents thereof will be in position to be viewed from the exterior of the wagon.
A further object is to provide movable wall sections for whereby said sections may be moved to gain access to any of the compartments in the vehicle or closed to exclude dust, rain, snow,
or other elements from coming in contact with the contents of the compartments.
A further object is to provide racks within the vehicle body for the reception ofcanned goods, or similar articles.
A further object is to provide the movable sections of the wall and certain of the stationary sections with glass, or other transparent substances, whereby the contents of the compartments and racks may be readily viewed without opening the wall sections.
A further object is to provide bins below certain of the compartments in which may be placed vegetables, fruit, and the like for replenishing thecompartments as the contents thereof is sold. A further object is to provide a hinged end wall for the vehicle body, which may be opened to admit or to remove the compartments,
said end walls having a passage formed therethrough and a sliding door for closing said passag is to provide a seat at the forward end of sections are formed for the receptionof ice and perishable commodities.
Other objects and advantages will be hereinafter set forth and pointed out in the accompanying specification.
In the accompanying drawings which are made a part of this application, Figure 1 15 York, have invented oer-- hereby declare the I the body of the wagonpackages,
And a further object to open position.
a side elevation of my improved form of wagon. Fig. 2 is a central, vertical, longitudinal, sectional view thereof. Fig. 3 is a rear end elevation of the wagon body. Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional view ther'ethrough, and Fig. 5 is a horizontal sectional view through the seat portion of the vehicle.
Referring to the drawings in which similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, 1 indicates the body' of the vehicle, which comprises oblong side walls 2, front and rear walls 3 andfi, a curved top 5 and a sup-- porting frame 6.
The interior of the body 1 has removably mounted therein a pair of frame members 7 in which are formed compartments 8, said compartments'being preferably arranged in tiers, one above the other, the floors 9 of said compartments being preferably inclined downwardly from their inner to their outer edges so that the contents of the compartments may be readily viewed from the exterior of the vehicle.
Extending above the compartments 8 are racks 1 0 for the reception of canned goods,
and the like, positioned that the contents thereof may be also viewed from the exteriorof the vehicle.
If desired, bins 11 may be formed below the lower tier of compartments,
.the replenishing'of the compartments, sai
bins having hinged'doors 12 for closing the same.
The frame members 7 are spaced apart to form a passage 13, from end to end of the vehicle body, so that the compartments may be readily refilled from the bins from the interior of the body, the rear wall 4 having an opening 14 through pass into the passage ing normally closed by door 15.
In order to place the members 7 into the body of the vehicle or remove the same therefrom, the wall L is provided with two sections 16 and 17 which are hinged to the side walls 2, said sections being held in closed position in by means of hooks 18 and staples 19 when said sections are to be opened, the door 15 is moved to open position, or until it registers with one of the sections, when the latches are released and the sections swung The end walls 3 and 4 which a person may said racks being so in whlch a 7 any preferred manner, as
and'
' mounted sections of 'quiring ice to retain are also preferably provided with windows 20 and 21 respectively, for lighting the interior of thebody from the ends thereof.
The side Walls 2 are provided with a plurality of sliding sections 22, in which are glass 28, or similar transparent substances, hus giving access to any of the compartments 8 from the eX- terior of the vehicle body,'while the contents of the compartments may be viewed from the exterior of the vehicle without opening the sliding sections, thus protecting the contents of the compartments from dust, and otherelements. The side walls, above the sliding sections, may also be provided with windows 24, if desired, thus throwing light'upon the articles carried inthe racks 10.
For convenience of removing articles from the compartments from the exterior of the body 1, a running board 25,.may be attached to each side rail of the frame 6 and as said boards are positioned above the Wheels, they serve as mud guards as well as platforms upon Which'to stand While removing articles from the compartments. In addition to the running boards 25, supplemental steps 26 are suspended below the running boards, for readily gaining access to the running boards and hand holds 27 may be attached to parts of the side walls, which may be grasped while standing upon the steps or 7 running boards;
At the forward end of the body 1 is provided a seat 28 formed in the shape of a box, in W iich are placed partitions 29, dividing the interior of the seat into compartments 30 and 31, the compartment 30 being designed to receive ice, while the compartments 31, at each side of the compartment 30, are
designed to receive perishable articles rethem in proper .commercial condition.
By constructing the wagon body and parts therefor in the manner shown, the wares are not only clearly exhibited to the purchaser, but are fully protected from the various elements, thus retaining the food stuffs in a sanitary condition and by buildproviding the sections poses than that specified, and by ing the compartments in tiers, a greater variety of articles may be carried and exhibited. i It will likewise be seen that by in the side walls of the body, the articles moved from the compartments without entering the vehicle body. It will further be seen that by removably positioning the compartment carrying frame members Within the body, said frame members may be removed and the vehicle used for other purproviding the form of seat shown, perishable articles may be conveniently handled .without consuming additional space within body.
What I claim is 1. In a huckster wagon, a body having side and end walls, one of said end walls be ing formed in two sections, said sections being hinged at their outer edges to the side walls, said sections having cut away portions at their meeting edges to form an opening, a door slidably mounted on one of said end sections adapted to close said opening, means to hold said end sections in closed position and a pair of frames removably mounted in said body, said frames having a passage therebetween in registration with said door opening.
a said tiers of compartments.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
