HARRISON B. PORTElfl OF ANDER, TEXAS.
LAWN-SWING FAN.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patgnted Dee, 1112, 19116.,
Application filed March 22, 1915. Serial No. 16,214.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRISON B. PORTER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ander, in the county of Goliad and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lawn-Swing Fans; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to lawn swing fans, and one of the principal objects of the in vention is to provide simple and eflicient means for swinging a fan back and forth automatically when the swing is operated.
Another object of the invention is to simplify the connections between the swing frame and the fan, and to render the fan operating attachment readily detachable from the swing.
The foregoing and other objects may be attained by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of a double lawn swing having a fan connected thereto and made in accordance with this invention, Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the fan attachment disconnected from the swing frame, Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view showing a modified form of fan.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates the supporting legs of the swing, and 2 are the cross braces at each side of the frame, said cross braces being connected by bolts or pivots 3 at the top to the legs 1, while the lower ends of the cross braces 2 are connected by bolts to said legs 1. The swing comprises the suspending bars 4; pivoted at 5 to the legs 1 and pivotally con nected at 6 to the foot board 7 The backs 8 of the swing seats are also pivoted on the rods 6, and provided with suitable seats 9 and arm rests 10. The swing thus far described may be of the usual or any suitable construction.
Pivoted at its ends in the suspending bars 1 at one side of the frame is a rod 11, and extending through said rod in the center is an L-shaped pin 12, one end of which extends through a block 13, said block being pivoted at 14 to a bar 15. At the opposite end of the bar 15 is a block 16 pivoted at 17 spring surrounding said pin and dlsposed to the bar 15 in a manner similar to the block 18, and extending through the block 16 is a pin 18 having a spring 19 encircling the same between its head 20 and the block 16. The pin 18 extends through the block 16 and through a rod 21 provided with pintles 22 at the ends thereof which are pivoted in the cross braces 2 at opposite sides of the swing and preferably at the point of 1nter section of said braces. Connected to the rod 21 is a yoke or support 23 for a fan 24.
Referring to Fig. 8 of the drawing, a fan frame comprising the wire members 25 is connected to the rod 21 and a fabric fan 26 is connected to said frame. Otherwise the construction is the same as that shown in Fig. 2.
From the foregoing it will be obvious that as the seats are swung back and forth, the fan is swung automatically in the opposite direction to the swing to keep the occupants of the seats cool during the swinging operation.
Various changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as defined in the claims.
What is claimed is 1. In. an automatic fan for swings including the combination with a supporting frame, and seat suspending bars pivoted to said frame, of a rod journaled centrally in said frame, a fan operating bar connected at one of its ends to said suspending bars, a block pivotally connected at one end to the other end of said operating bar, a headed pin extending through the free end of said block and connected to said rod, a spring surrounding said pin and located between the head of the pin and block, and a fan carrying frame secured to said rod.
2. In an automatic fan for swings including the combination with a supporting frame, and seat suspending bars pivoted to said frame, of an Lshaped bracket secured at one of its ends to one of said seat suspending bars, a bar, blocks pivotally secured at one of their ends to the opposite ends of said bar, one of said blocks being secured to the bracket, the opposite end of said bar extended toward the center of said swing frame, a rod journaled centrally in said swing frame, a pin extending through the free end of the block on the inner end of the bar, and extending through said rod, a
7 between said block and the 'head of said pin,
said spring holding'the block in firm .contact with said rod.
In an automatic fan for swings, including the combination with a supporting frame, and seat suspending bars pivoted to said frame, a rod journaled centrally'in said frame, a bracket secured to said suspend- V f ingbars, a horizontal operating bar, blocks 7 10 pivotally secured to the opposite ends of said bar; one of said blocks being secured 'to said bracket, a pin extending through the free end of the other block, the opposite end of said pin extending into the rod, a
spring surrounding said pin and abutting the block, and the head of the same, a fan 'carried by said rod, said spring holding Gopies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the "Commissioner of Patents,
